CUSPIDOR.

To (ZZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, VICTOR F. BENDIXEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of 5 Illinois, have invented a new and useful Cuspidor, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention appertains to cuspidors and aims to provide anovel and improved receptacle of that character.

The present invention contemplates the provision of a cuspidor of unique construction, and embodying a removable receptacle or bowl, constructed of paper or other inexpensive and destructible material, whereby after the receptacle becomes filled, the same may be detached and destroyed.

It is also the object of the present invention to provide a cuspidor of the nature indicated which will be non-tipping as well as sanitary, the cuspidor being simple and inexpensive in construction as well as being practical and efficient in its use.

The invention has for a more specific object, to provide a frame adapted to be set upon the floor, and having means for receiving and holding the destructible receptacle, whereby the receptacle may be removed when filled, so as to be destroyed.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The invention has been illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure l is a central vertical sectlon of the cuspidor. Fig. is a bottom view thereof.

In carrying out the present invention, the cuspidor embodies a frame 1, which includes an annular rim member or ring 2 having an inturned sloping or tapered flange 3. The flange 3 is preferably extended inwardly and downwardly to such an extent as to provlde a funnel-shaped top for the cuspidor, having a mouth or receiving opening 4. upper ends flattened and secured by means of rivets, screws, or otherwise, to the interior of the rim or annulus 2. To the lower ends of the legs 5 are secured rounded knob-like feet 6 which serveas weights to rest upon the floor, for preventing the frame from tipping even though pressure is given to bear upon any side of the rim. The frame, as thus constructed, will be rigid and sufficiently heavy for the purposes, and will also be neat and attractive in appearance. The rim or annulus 2 is provided'upon its interior, with a plurality of series of lugs 7 which are preferably disposed intermediate the legs 5 and having their upper ends or faces inclined so as to be parallel with and spaced slightly from the bottom side of the top or funnel.

In connection with the cuspidor frame, there is employed a receptacle or bowl 8, preferably constructed of paper or other inexpensive and destructible material, and provided at its mouth, with an outturned flared or inclined flange or rim 9. The flange or rim 9 is inclined similar to the top or funnel of the frame, in order that the rim of the receptacle may snugly fit the flange or funnel 3 of the frame as seen in Fig. 1. The rim 9 of the receptacle is provided about its margin with a series of notches, corre sponding with the retaining lugs 7 of the rim 2. Thus, when the receptacle 8 is applied to the bottom of the funnel or top 3, the notches 10 may be arranged to pass over the lugs 7 whereby when the receptacle 8 is in place, the same may be given a slight turn in either direction, to lock the rim or flange 9 of the receptacle upon the retaining lugs 7. The receptacle 8 is thus supported upon the lugs 7, snugly below the funnel or top and with the bottom of the receptacle spaced slightly above the floor.

WV hen the receptacle 8 has been applied to the frame, the same will receive the matter delivered or discharged into the cuspidor, the funnel or top facilitating the delivery of the extraneous matter through the mouth or opening 4 into the receptacle. The funnel or top 3 protects the receptacle from the top, while the legs 5 protect the sides of the re ceptacle sufliciently for the purposes. After the receptacle 8 has become filled, the same may readily be removed by giving the same a slight turn, to bring the notches 10 in alinement with the lugs 7, in which event the re ceptacle Will drop onto the floor and may readily be separated from the frame, so that the receptacle and its contents may be destroyed or otherwise disposed of. A new receptacle may then be applied to the frame, and in this manner, the cuspidor is rendered sanitary, to prevent the spread of contagious diseases, and to avoid other disadvantages incidentto an ordinary ouspidor.

From the foregoing, taken in connection with the drawings, the other advantages of the present device will be obvious Without further comment, itbeing noted that the objects aimed at have been carried out satisfactorily. If desired, the means carried by the rim 2 of the frame, for receiving and holding the receptacle may be altered Within the scope of What is claimed, Without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new is In a device of the character described, a frame including a rim member having an upper inturned flange forming a funnel, and having inner lugs below the said flange, and legs attached to the said member, and a receptacle having an inclined rim fitting the bottom of the said flange and seated upon the lugs, the receptacle rim having notches to aline with. the said lugs.
