PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES P. BUOKENBERGER, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
MIRROR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 735,204, dated August 4, 1903.
Application filed March 21,1903. Serial No. 148,938. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES P. BUCKEN- BERGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Mirrors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to mirrors, and is particularly designed to have the mirror adapted for use in shoe stores to give a purchaser a view of the shoes upon his feet.
It is furthermore designed to provide for supporting the mirror upon the floor and to bring the lower edge of said mirror in close proximity to the floor in order that a purchaser may View his foot when planted upon the floor, and thus obviate the necessity for elevating the foot to obtain a view thereof.
With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly set forth in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a rear perspective view of a mirror embodying the features of the present invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the device, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the stand or frame with the mirror proper in elevation.
Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts in each and every figure ofcent ends of which are connected by a T- coupling 3 with the stem portion 4 of the coupling rising therefrom. Upon the front end of the front section 1 is a cap 5, and a similar cap 6 is fitted to the rear end of the rear section, said caps being screw-threaded upon the pipes and designed to close the open ends thereof and present comparatively smooth and ornamental terminals for the base or sill members. The opposite sill members are connected by a cross-bar 7, preferably a pipe-section, having its opposite ends screwed into or otherwise connected to the inner sides of the upstanding stem portions of the T-couplings 3. A suitable cross-bar 8, preferably a pipe-section, has its opposite ends connected to the front caps 5 by being screwed into the same or otherwise connected thereto. This construction produces a very strong, stable, and comparatively light base for the stand which is to support the mirror proper. Rising immediately above the base is an upright frame, consisting of opposite pipe-sections 9, forming standards, having their lower ends screw-threaded into or otherwise secured within the sockets formed by the stem portion 4 of the T-couplings 3. Extending between the upper ends of the standard is a crosspipe section 10, with elbow-couplings 11, connecting the respective ends of said pipe-section to the adjacent upper ends of the standards.
The mirror proper, which has been indicated at 12, is hung from the upper cross-bar of the rectangular frame which risesfrom the base of the stand with the lower end of the mirror lying against the front side of the lower front cross-bar 8, so as to rigidly support the mirror in a slightly inclined or tilted position. A convenient means for hanging the mirror from the cross-bars 10 consists in hooks 13, preferably two in number, although a greater number may be employed, if desired, said hooks having their shank portions connected to the top edge of the frame of the mirror in any suitable manneras, for instance, by being screW-threaded into said frame With the bill portions of the hooks detach-ably embracing the cross-bar 10, whereby the mirror may be removed from the same for convenience in transportation and storage.
Although I have set forth that the device of the present invention has been particularly designed for use in shoe stores, it will of course be understood that it is capable of use as a pier-glass in any connection whatsoever-as, for instance, in bed-rooms, drawing-rooms, &c.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
1. A device of the character described, embodying opposite sill members,'a frame rising from said members, a cross-bar connecting the sill members, and a mirror hung from the top of the frame with its lower portion resting against the front of the cross-bar.
2. A device of the character described, embodying opposite sill members, standards rising from said members, an upper cross-bar connecting saidstandards, a lower cross-bar connecting the front ends of the sill members, and a mirror hung from the upper cross-bar and resting against the front of the lower cross-bar.
3. A device of the character described, embodying opposite sill members, standards rising from said members, an upper cross-bar connecting the standards, a lower cross-bar connecting the front ends of the sill members,
and a mirror provided at its upper end with one or more hooks embracing the upper crossbar for the support of the mirror, with the lower end portion of the mirror engaging the lower cross-bar to support said mirror in an inclined position.
4. A device of the character described, embodying opposite sill members, each member being made up of front and rear sections and an intermediate T-coupling with the stem of the coupling rising therefrom, an intermediate cross-bar connecting the stem portions of the couplings, a front cross-bar connecting the front ends of the sill members, standards rising from the stems of the couplings, elbows carried by the upper ends of the standards, an upper cross-bar connecting the elbows, and a mirror provided at its upper end with one or more hooks detachably embracing the upper crossbar, with its lower end portion resting against the front of the lower front cross-bar.
