Description

PATENTED MAY-14, 1,907.

DISPLAY-STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1907.
Application filed February 24, 1906. SeriaLNo. 302,708.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES SMITH Bors- FORD, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Peterboro, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Display- Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to display stands or racks, the object of the invention being to provide a simple, neat, attractive, and cheaply manufactured stand for supporting and dis playing goods and articles of various kinds, the stand embodying a main post or standard and a series of supporting arms connected therewith and adapted to be readily detached therefrom for storage and transportation.
With the above general object in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts,
hereinafter more fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a display stand constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the base of the stand. Fig. 4 is a detail perspectiveview of the cap.
The stand contemplated in this invention comprises essentially a tubular post or standard 1 of any desired size in diameter and length, and for the purpose of supporting said post or standard, the lower end thereof is exteriorly threaded, as shown at 2, and screwed into an interiorly threaded socket 3 which forms part of the supporting base, the base further comprising an outer rim or annulus 4 which is connected to the inner socket 3 by means of a series of spokes or arms 5. The base thus constructed may be of any desired size or diameter to form an effective support for the stand or rack, as a whole.
Fitted detachably into the upper end of the tubular post or standard 1 is a flanged cap comprising a plug portion 6 which fits into the upper end of the post, as shown in Fig. 2, and has a flange 7 at its upper end which bears against the upper end. of the post. The cap is provided with a'plurality of openings 8 extending therethrough and adapted to receive the angular or down-bent ends 9 of a plurality of upper arms 10, which, when in place, extend radially outward from the top of the post, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The tubular post or standard 1 is further provided with a multiplicity of openings 11 of a size adapted to receive supporting arms 12, each of which is preferably composed of a stout rod of suitable length to extend the desired distance outward horizontally from the post, said rod having its inner end bent into semi-circular shape to form a crook 13, the extremity of which is adapted to be inserted through any one of the openings 11 in the side of the tubular post or standard, after which the arm with its crook may be manipulated or turned in such manner as to cause the extremity 14 of the crook to bear against the same side of the post that the body of the arm 12 passes through, the extremity 14 touching the inner wall of the post immediately over the hole 11 through which said arm passes, while the bend or central portion 15 of the crock bears against the opposite inner wall of the tubular standard, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. In this way, a perfect support is given to each of the radiating arms 12, each arm being sustained firmly in a horizontal position. At the same time, the arms may be readily removed from the post by working the crooked ends thereof out of the o enings through which they have 'pre vious y been inserted. If desired, the parts may be so proportioned that the arms 12 may be detached from the post and all of them inserted in the tubular post or standard which may thereafter be closed by means of the cap at the top thereof.
The display stand or rack hereinabove described may be economically manufactured and is neat and attractive in appearance, besides being perfectly practical for the purpose for which it is desired.
I claim:
1. A display stand comprising a tubular stand having openings along the side thereof, and a plurality of supporting arms having semi-circular crooks at one end insertible through the openings in the side of the standard and adapted to bear against the inner wall of said standard to support the arms horizontally or substantially so.
2. A display stand comprising a tubular standard provided with holes in the side thereof, and a plurality of supporting arms each consisting of a rod provided at one end with a crook removably inserted through one of the holes in the side of the standard, said crook forming two bearing points within and against the opposite inner side Walls of the standard to support the arm in a substantially horizontal position.
3. A display stand comprising a tubular stand and a supporting base therefor, a cap fitted into the upper end of the tubular standard and provided With holes eXtend ing vertically therethrough, and supporting arms arranged to extend in a substantially horizontal plane and having angular extremities inserted in the holes of the cap.
4. In a display stand or rack comprising a tubular post or standard provided With holes along the side thereof, a supporting base to which said post is detachably connected, a series of supporting arms each having a CHARLES SMITH BOTSFORI).
