GAME APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 21, 1916.
Application filed April 20, 1915. Serial No. 22,675.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HERBERT WV. COLLINS, a subject of the King of'Great Britain, residing at Grand Forks, in the Province of British Columbia and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved game apparatus for playing a game which we call empire. t
The object of theinvention is to provide an improved game apparatus which may be used by varying number of players and nection with the game.
in connection with cards, the flags of nations and a ball or marble for playing a highly entertaining and interesting game which is calculated to appeal to patriotic sentiment.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a plan for a game apparatus constructed in accordance with myv invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same on the plane, indicated by the line aa of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar view on the plane indicated by the line Z)?) of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a view showing the flags used in con- Fig. 5 is a view showing the cards used in connection with the game. i
In accordance with my invention I provide a game board 1 which is here shown as polygonal and is provided'at its outer side with a guard wall 2. The board is divided into a series of segmental fields 3 by means of radial walls l. Each wall l is provided with a runway 5 on its upper side that inclines downwardly and outwardly and discharges at its lower, outer end, on a small raised block 6. Said blocks 6 are arranged in the angles between the walls 4 and 2 and the said blocks are segmental in form and each is provided with numbered holes or pockets 7 and also with a stop 8, the holes or pockets being near the ends and the stop being at the center of the block. Each block also hasa flange wall 9 on its front side.
In the center of the board is a tower 10 the base of which is detachably connected to the board. The tower is polygonal in plan, with its angles presented to the inner ends of the runways 5 and its faces presented to the fields 3. A tube 11 is vertically arranged in the upper portion of the tower and projects upwardly through the center of the roof thereof. In the base of the tower is a cone 12 on the apex of which is a ball 13. The cone is provided with inclined alternating ways 11, 15 which respectively communicate at their lower ends with openings '16, 17 said openings 16 being in the angles of the tower and said opening 17 being in the faces thereof. The openings are slightly above the inner ends of the runways 5 and the openings 17 are above the inner portions of the fields 3. The fields form inclined planes, their inner ends being higher than thelr outer portions.
Each field is provided at its outer side with one or more pockets 18; with stops 19 near lts outer corners, a nearly centrally located stop 20 which has pockets 21, 22, and is further provided at its sides near its inner end with stops 23. On each field near the'opening 17 is a'fender stud 21. The fields are alsO provided with figures, representlng soldiers, cannon, ships, or the like, and some of the figures are provided with flags. The figures are all" removable and may be secured in place in the fields by placing them in recesses 25 with which the fields are provided. One of the fields will be inscribed to indicate a nation, Our Empire. Another will be inscribed to indicate the chief executive ofiicer of the nation such as Our President. Another will be inscribed Our Army, another Our Navy, another Our Flag and so on and appropriate figures will be placed in the fields.
In connection with the ame board a pack of cards numbered from one up will be employed and also small flags of the various nations. The persons playing draw each a card from the pack and the one who holds the highest numbered card selects one of the flags indicating the nation his side is to represent. The holder of the next highest card does the like and so on, each of the players providing himself with a flag. The game is played by dropping a ball or marble 27 in the tube at the upper end of the tower. The ball passes out of the tower either through one of the openings 16 or one of the openings 17. as chance may direct. A ball dropping from one of the openings 16 will fall on one of the runways 5 and be directed thereby to one of the blocks 6 and if it lodges on one of the pockets on said block will score for the player according to the value of saidpoeket; These values Will be inscribed, in practice in all of the pockets so that theygvvill be known by, 'all the players.
of the openings 17 it Will fall on one'of the If a ball drops through one fields and Will strike and be deflected by the cordingly. After a predetermined number of plays byr'eachfplayer," the person scoring the highest number will Win; or if alnumber has been selected, the first p erson to score up to that number Will Win. The fig ures in practice are artistically constructed and appropriately painted and ornamented and impart a livelv and pleasingappearance on the 'game board.
