Description
nbModeL D. WHITBURN. GAME APBARATUS.
No.-50s,-o22-. Patented Aug 8, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL WHITBURN, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
GAM E APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 503,022, dated August 8, 1893.
Application filed April 26, 1893- Serial No. 471.935. (No model.) Patented in England March 31, 1892,11'0. 6,238-{ To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DANIELWHITBURN, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at London, in the county of"MiddleseX, England, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Game Apparatus, (for which I obtained a patent in Great Britain and Ire land, No. 6,238, dated March 31, 1892,) which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure I is a perspective view of the tray, the cups or cavities therein and the curved tubes in operative position, and Fig. II, an enlarged-detail view.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, novel and attractive device designed to afford innocent amusement and recreation to both young and old people and a never failing entertainment for families and social circles.
The invention consists of a curved tube through which a marble or ball is discharged into a shallow box or tray provided with a series of cups or cavities which are designated by numerals or other marks to indicate the different degrees of success of the player. A failure to drop the ball into either of the cups counts nothing.
In the accompanying drawings, A designates the tray provided interiorly with cups or cavities a. Each of the curved tubes or guides B, is enlarged at its upper end to receive a marble c; said tubes constitute trough projectors and as they are unattached to the table or board they are adapted to be adjusted and guided by the hand into any des'ired position in relation to the cups or cavities upon the board. When in operation, the lower end of the tube is placed upon the ends of the tray in line with the row of cups. It is obvious that the marbles, in their downward course, gain an impetus suificient to impel them up the ascent of the lower end of the tube and a certain distance beyond according to the degree of elevation at which the upper end of the tube is held. It is also evident that good judgment and skill are required to adjust and hold the tube in such a position as to deposit the marble in any one of the cups.
If desired, the tray may be provided with a lid and the tubes made in sections and placed in the tray when not in use, thereby making the apparatus portable.
What I claim as new is In a game apparatus, the combination with the herein described tray provided with a series of cups or cavities of a curved trough projector unattached to the table or board and adapted to be adjusted and guided by the hand to direct a marble or ball toward or into one of the said cups, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoingI have hereunto set my hand, this 4th day of April, 1893,'in the presence of witnesses.
DANIEL WHITBURN.
