Be it. known that I, WILTON W. CoeswELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Games; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled .in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. reference being hadto the accompanying drawingaand to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to games or amusement devices and has for its principal object to provide a game that maybe played and enjoyed by persons of various ages, skill and experience and which will be of interest especially to persons familiar with ten-pins or similar games.

In accomplishing this object I have provided improved details of structure the preferred forms of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure I is a perspective view of a game device constructed according to the present invention, showing the target cups in receiving position.

Fig. II is a front view of the same showing one of the cup members moved to scored position.

Fig. III is a transverse vertical section of the same particularly illustrating the mounting of the target or cup members.

Referring more in detail to the drawings:

may be rolled and guided thereby intothe cup.-

The cups are pivotally supported on the cross rod 5 by extending the rod through transverse openings 10 in the rear walls thereof so that when in position for receiv ing the ball, the extended walls '7 are inclined forwardly and downwardly and the upper edgesrest on a supporting floor or other member adjacent the forward edge of the base board 2 and the ball may be easily rolled into the cup socket. When closed, the cup occupies an upright position (dotted lines Fig. 1H) and the base of the cup rests on the floor of the base member 1.

In making the cu s, it is preferred to make the walls at the bases of substantial thickness and to taper the same gradually to a thin edge at their open ends, so that the base portions will practically balance the upper portions and a ball rolled into a cup will cause the same to pivot quickly and move to an upright position before the ball can roll therefrom. It is also intended to use balls that will fit snugly in the cup sockets so that when a ball is rolled thereinto its tendency to be cast from the socket is eliminated.

With the device so constructed. in playing a game, the base 1 with the target cups mounted thereon is placed on a floor or table, with the cups moved to open position as is shown in Fig. I, z. e., with the extended wall inclined forwardly and downwardly so that the ball may be rolled thereinto. The players then station themselves at a designated distance in front of the device and attempt to roll the ball 9 into one of the cups. If a. player is successful in the attempt the weight of the ball in the socket overbalances the forward part of the cup and the latter is moved pivotally on its supporting rod and assumes an upright position; this may be said to count the player a certain number of points and he is scored accordingly.

A number of different systems of scoring may be used but it has been found convenient to count each target a certain number of points and to permit each player to have a certain number of trials, and to score the players according to the sum of the points made in that number of trials; the one having the highest sum. of course, being declared the winner.

It is also intended, in some instances that certain characters ma be printed or painted It is not intended that. the targets shall be limited to the particular form of construction and -design shown, as it is apparent that similar targets representing various characters could be used with equal success without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described my invention What Iclaim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is '1.
