v v w THE COLUMBIA PLMyouRAPn cm, WASHINGTON, D. c.
WLADYSLAW- OJGZYK, or CLEVELAND; 01110.- 7 r a Application filed August 30,1 915; s rial Nausea To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WLADYsLAw OJozYK,
a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga andState of Ohio, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new. and useful improvements-in hat fasteners.
An object of the present invention is to providea fastener for ladies hats in which the same is secured in the hat and hair-of the wearer in a manner to prevent acci-' dental displacement of the same and subsequent loss.
A further object of the inventionis to provide a hat fastener in the form of a pin that passes completely through the hat and hair of the wearer with a protecting head positioned on the projecting end of the pin and connected to the pin head'to prevent the accidental displacement of the same. 7
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then claimed.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts. throughout the several views :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hat upon the head of a wearer with the present form of fastening. means in operative position in the head.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view, partly broken away, of the improved hat fastening device, the point protecting head being partly shown in section, better to illustrate the interior pin-receiving recess. Fig. 3 is an end elevational view of the point protecting head, and, Fig. 4: is a sectional view taken on line IV-IV of Fig. 3, showing the notched face on the interior of the point protecting head for gripping the point of the pin. 7
According to my invention there is provided a hat fastener including a pin element with a head formed integral therewith or otherwise secured thereto while a point pro: tecting head is adapted to be mounted on the point of the pin. The main pin head and the point protecting head may be con 7 thereof. v ,ing-mean's 1s connected at each of itsjends to and is adapted to be p .thehat as is indicated while the pin passes ,3, T 7 i VHAT-EASTENERQ Specificationof Letters Patent P t fif 3i- 14,1916
structed of identical shape to present a fastening :of neat appearance, the same being preferably cone-shaped as shown,
while the point protecting head is longitu-e 7 dinally slotted from the pin-receiving end toward the enlarged end and internally-con- 4 V structed in a manner to frictionally grip the pm and prevent accidental displacement An elasticcord orv similar fasten the fixed head and point protecting head positioned exteriorly of therethrough and through the hair 'of the wearer, the elastic. cord further holding the point protecting head in assembled position 7 as shown, V I a Referring more in detail to-the accompanying drawing, the reference numeral 5 V designates the crown of a hat through which the'pin shank 6 of the 'hat fastener is-adapted to extend. The pin shanlr6 ispointed at one end to provide a hat and hair entering end while the other end thereof is provided with a fixed head 7 of any suitable shape. or design but preferably of cone-shape as shown.
A point protectinghead :8 is adapted to be received on'the pointed end of the pin shank 6 after the same passes through the hat 5 and is of peculiar construction to prevent the accidental displacement thereof from the pin. This point protecting head 8. is preferably formed of thesame shape and design as the fixed head 7, and as shown is of cone-shape, the same being longitudinally slotted from the smaller end thereof to a pointsadjacent the larger end to provide a pair of resilient side member 9. The side members 9 are slightly spaced as'shown in Fig. 3 while the central portion of one memher is provided with a longitudinal ridge or tongue 10 that cooperates with a longitudi-o nal recess or groove 11 in the opposing side members 9. Transverse ridges and grooves 12 are formed in the tongue and groove 10' and 11 and are adapted to frictionally enof, the pin end entering the central portion of the slot between the two members 9 and is engaged by the ridges or shoulders 12 formed on said members The elastic cord 14 is p0- sitioned exteriorlyof the hat and engages the crown thereof and tends further to hold a the protecting head '8 WVhile the form of shown and described is What is believed to upon the pin.
the the preferred embodiment thereof; it is nevertheless to be understood that various forms, modifications and arrangements of the parts may be made Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
WVhat I claim as new is 1. A. hat fastener including a pin shank and a head formed -,integral therewith, a point protectinghead longitudinally slotted Copies of this patent maybeobtained-for fire cents each, by addressing-the Washington, ZD.'iG.:
formed on said tongue and pin adapted 1 to be received Within said the invention herein length to provide a pair members, a longitudinal for a portion of its of opposing side tongue and groove-formed on the opposed transverse ridges groove, the said faces of the side members,
tongue and groove and be frictionallyqengaged, by said ridges, and a flexible cord connected at its ends to the fixed head and the protecting head.
2. .A pointprotector for hat pins .co'mpris ing a resilient head having a slot extending from side to side. thereof substantially throughout its length and provided on one T face With an upstanding corrugated rib and. on the remaining face with a groove having a corrugated bottom;
In testimony whereof, Iaflix my signature.
