OSG'OOD MOBELL BEIDLON, or BATH, MAIN V ROOF-COLLAR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. '7, 191a.
Application filed December 30, 1915. Serial No. 69,374.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Oseoon M. REDLoN, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of Bath, in the county of Sagadahoc and State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Roof-Collar, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a collar to be' placed on a roof around a vent-pipe, or the like, and arranged to secure the flashing.
An object of my invention is to provide a collar having a wide range of adjustment to conform to the particular pitch of a roof.
The special advantages of my improved collar will appear from the specific description following. I I
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views. Figure 1 IS a vertical section of aroof collar embodying my invention showing the same applied; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the separate base member; and Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing the collar adjusted to a roof having a diflerent pitch.
In forming a roof collar 10 embodying my invention, the same is formed at the sloping lower end thereof with an internal flange 11 and the collar adjacent to the said flange flares in a downward direction as at 12 to overhang the said flange. The collar, at the interior and above the flange 11, has an annular rib or flange 13 to prevent the oakum used in calking the joint about the pipe, from being driven downwardly through the collar. In connection with the flanged collar, I provide a separate base 14, which, as best seen in Fig. 2, is elliptical to conform to the sloping flanged lower end of the collar. The base 14 serves to clamp a flashing O on the roof A about the pipe 13. Stove bolts 15, or the like, serve to secure the elliptical base member 14 inposition. It will be observed that the nuts 16are at the interior of the collar at the upper side of the sloping flange 11, and, by reason of the flare at 12 above said flange, the said flange 11 and the nuts 16 are disposed outside the opening defined by the flange 13. On the elliptical base member 14 at one end, depending legs are cast, or otherwise secured,
there being, preferably, a pair of these legs. The legs aredisposed at an obtuse angle to the base 14 and they are adapted at their lower ends to rest on the roof as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the opposite end of the base resting directly on the roof.
To adapt a collar provided with the base described, to roofs of diflerent pitch, the said base may be reversed to position the set i of legs to eitherend of the major axis of the sloping elliptical lower end of the collar 10. A wider range of adjustment may be provided by sawing off more or less of the legs 17. Thus, with the legs in either position, the said legs, by shortening the same to a greater or less extent, will provide a. wide range of adjustment to conform to the roof, in addition to the two main adjustments affected by the different positions of the legs.
Preferably, the opposed faces of the flange 11 and the base 14 are corrugated. In any event, flashing of various materials, whether light or heavy, such as lead or thin copper, may be securely clamped in position.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A roof collar presenting a sloping lower end formed with an internal flange thereon, a separate elliptical base conforming to the sloping flanged collar and adapted to clamp a flashing against the lower end of the collar, said elliptical base having legs at the under side at one end, said legs being at an obtuse angle to the base, and the base being reversible to position thelegs at either end of the slope of the collar, and means to detachably secure the base to the bottom flange of the collar.
2. A roof collar including a neck-like body, having a sloping lower end, a separate elliptical base conforming to the said sloping end and adapted to clamp a flashing thereto, said base having a depending leg member at one end and being reversible on the collar to dispose the leg at either end of the slope of the collar, and means to secure the said base in position,
3. A roof collar presenting a sloping lower end formed with an internal flange thereon, the said collar being flared in a downward direction adjacent to the said flange, a separate elliptical base conforming to the sloping In testimony whereof I have signed my flanged collar and adapted to clamp a flashname to this specification in the presence of ing against the same, said elliptical base two subscribing Witnesses.
having a depending leg member at the under OSGOOD MORELL REDLON. side at one end, and means to detachably Witnesses:
secure the base to the bottom flange of the FRANK B. ADAMs,
collar. EDUARD R. MOCABE.
