United States, residing at Boise, in the county of Ada and State of Idaho, have invented a new and useful Stovepipe, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for holding stove pipes that pass through tent walls or roofs, and at the same time protecting the fabric of the latter from becoming ignitedbecause of its close association with the pipe.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a very simple and practical structure that can be quickly applied to and detached from a tent, will constitute an effective holder or guide of the character above set forth, and will furthermore turn the water away from the stove pipe opening.
The preferred form of construction is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a tent, showing a stove pipe projecting through the same and the novel holder in place around said pipe. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view on an enlarged scale. Fig. 4 is a detail plan view of the holder. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one of the turn-buttons.
Similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the embodiment illustrated, an inner clamping collar 6 is employed having a central opening 7 that is of considerable diameter. The outer margin of the inner collar is preferably beaded as shown at 8, while its inner margin is provided with an outstanding flange 9.
An outer clamping collar 10 is employed that has its outer margin upturned, as shown at 11. This collar is provided with a central substantially elliptical opening 12 of considerably less diameter than the opening 7 in the inner collar. An upstanding flange 13 surrounds the opening 12, and said outer collar furthermore has an annular groove 1.4 formed between its inner and outer edges and adapted to receive the flange 7 of the inner collar. As shown, particularly in Figs. 2 and 4, when the outer collar is in place upon the inner collar, it partially closes the opening 7, and the portion thereof that extends over said opening, has a plurality of turn-buttons 15 pivoted thereon, as shown at 16. These turn-buttons include outstanding thumb-pieces 17 with offset lips 18 that are disposed at an inclination, as shown particularly in Fig. 5.
In practice, both the collars are preferably dished outwardly, as shown. In using the device, an opening said collar being disposed against the inner side of the wall or roof. The outer clamping collar is then placed against the outer side by said wall or roof, and the buttons 15 are then turned so that the lips 18 overlap the inner sides of the inner margins of the inner collar, thus clamping the collars securely together upon the tent wall or roof. The stove pipe is passed through the central opening 13, and because of its elliptical shape, even when set at an inclination, the pipe will snugly fit in the said opening. Moreover, as the tent, wall or roof does not extend closer to the pipe, than the flange 7, it will be evident that nothing but metal is in engagement with said pipe, and the danger of setting the tent on fire at this point is practically eliminated. The dishing of the parts, as shown, throws the water away from the central opening 12, and the collars being preferably of galvanized iron, will not rust.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation, and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art without further description, and it will be un derstood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion, and minor details of construction, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a stove pipe holder for tents, the combination with a clamping collar having an opening therethrough, of another clamping collar that extends over said opening and i has a pipe-receiving opening therethrough, and means carriedby the latter collar and located in the opening of the first mentioned collar for clamping said collars together.
2. In a stove pipe holder for tents, the combination with associated clamping collars having openings therethrough to receive a stove pipe, of turn-buttons carried by one collar and detachably engaging over the other.
3. In a stove pipe holder for tents, the combination with a clamping collar having an opening therethrough, of am other clamping collar that extends over said opening and has a pipe-receiving opening therethrough, and turn-buttons pivoted on the latter collar, said buttons engaging over the inner margins of the first mentioned collar.
4. In a stox e pipe holder for tents, the combination with an inner clamping collar having an opening and an outstanding fiange surrounding the same, of an outer clamping collar having an annular intermediate groove that receives the flange and having a substantially elliptical pipe-receiving opening, said outer collar furthermore having an outstanding flange that surrounds the elliptical opening, and means for clamping the collars together.
