Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 29, 1916.
Application filed August 18, 1914. VSerial No. 857,402.
one of its objects to provide a simply constructed receiver of iexible material'adapted tobe inserted within a rigid supporting body to receive the material and removable from the rigid body, to prevent the material deposited in the receiver from coming 1n contact withl the supporting body. s
l'Another object of the invention 1s provide a device of this character having a member for supporting the receiver and removable together with the receiver.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention. 4Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of the improved devices in its preferred form; Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the de vice as illustrated in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a sectional view of a conventional bed pan with the improved device applied.
The improved device includes an outer rigid supportingbody 10 which may be of any suitable material and of anyl suitable form and adapted to the purposes for which the device is to be employed, the improved attachment not being dependent upon the form of the supporting body. The supportf ing body will preferably be of porcelain or porcelain lined metal or the like, or of gal'-V vanized metal of the ordinary construction.
The improved attachment comprises a receiver 11 for the material which is formed of iem'ble material such as paper or the like and preferably water proofed. A support ing member 12 for the receiver forms a part of the invention and is preferably formed of foraminous material such as wire netting and conforming in outline to the outer body body,
and engaging within the same, and thus supporting the receiver. At its outer end the supporting member is preferably formed with an outwardly directed liange or rim 13 which bears over the outturned rim of the porting member is likewise preferably provided with lifting handles 14 to facilitate the handling of the support-ing member and the receiver contained therein.
The handles 14 depending externally of the rim of the body 10assist in supporting the member 12 inposition. A cover 15 may be employed upon the device if preferred.
The improved device may be employed as a slop jar, a garbage can, or the like, and it is not desired, therefore, to limit the invention in any manner as to the form of the receptacle or the uses for which it is to be employed.
The improved device may likewise be applied to a conventional bed pan as illustrated in Fig. 3. j
In employing the improved device, after the material has been deposited within the receiver, the supporting member together with the receiver may be removed from the supporting body, and overturned and the receiver and its contents discharged, the receiver thus being discarded and a fresh one applied to the supporting member. By this means the interior of the supporting body is protected from contamination from the material, as at no time does the material come in contact with the interior of the sup porting body.
The receiver will preferably be constructed of paper as light as possible consistent with the strain to which it will be subjected, and may be discarded with its contents and a fresh receiver deposited within the supporting body.
Havlng thus described the invention what is claimed as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising a rigid body, a supporting member of foraminous material fitting within the rigid body and having handles extending above and depending externally of the rigid and a receiver of iexible material body 10 and is supported thereby. The supwithin said supporting member and removable therewith from the rigid body.
*2.,In a device of the class described2 a material engaging within the foraminous 10 rigid outer body having an outturned nm, body.
