WATER COOLER Pate-nte flip; Km.
WITNBSSES ATTORNB `s x sired. The water-receptacle Eis provided at UNITED" STATES CHARLES F. WISLOH,
FATENT OFFICE.
or NEW Yoan, N. Y.`
WATER-COOLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,095, dated April 1, 1884. Application filed January 25, 18E4. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, CHARLES F. WIsLoH, of the city, county, and Stateof New York, [have invented -certain new and useful Imi provements inWater-Goolers,of which the folw i, lowing is a specification.
" "the dischargefaucet. The ice is supported in U a net around the funnel, which is protected 1 "by awire guard-coneagainst injury by the ice.
In the accompanyingdrawings, Figure 1 l represents a vertical central section of my improved water-cooler; and Fig. 2, a vertical transverse section of the same on line or x, Fig. 1.
`Similar letters of reference' indicate corresponding parts. i 'A represents the `body of a water-cooler,
t which is made of cylindrical or other shape.
The body A is made of two parts, the lower part of `which is secured to the base B, while the upper part is made detachable and tightly fitted to the lower part by an overlapping j oint.
i; Tothe base is applied a sheet-metal cylinder, ,"B, that is extended above the joint between `the upper and lower parts of the body, so as to receive the dripping from the ice. A frame consisting of stout upright rods D and a horiontal top ring, D', is secured to the base, and erves to support the water -receptacle E, hich is made of cylindrical shape, and provided with a funnel-shaped lower end.. The lower end of the funnel E is supported by and tightly packed to the inner endv of the barrel 3 of the discharge-faucet F, as shown inF' l By removing the water-receptacle E from cooler it can be readily cleaned whenev `the base, at the point `where it` is contracted forth@ funneingwananlter, ranauismaue of perforated plates, and an intermediate layer of charcoal or other suitable iiltering material. The iceV is broken into lumps and placed into a net, G, that is suspended from a ringshaped wire, g, supported on radial arms g. The net G is preferably provided at its inside with a layer of flannel to retain the impurities contained in the ice, which netis removed --from time to time and cleaned by washing.
A wire guard-cone, E2, is placed around the` funnel E', and at the upper end supported by the radial rods g', and at the lower end by radial rods g2, attached to eyes of the supporting-rodsV D. The guard-cone E2 protects the, funnel Ef and prevents the breaking of the same bythe lumps of ice.
The ice-water is collected in the cylinder B at the lower part lof the cooler and drawn off from time to time through a discharge-tube,
f, the outlet-orifice of which is closed by a screw-plug, f. The ice is placed into the supporting-net, after lifting the upper part of the body A off the lower part. As the ice-water is collected in the lower part of the cooler, and V not in contact with the ice, the latter will last much longer. As the ice is not placed into the water, the latter is drawn off in acold and perfectly pure and filtered state without anyimpurities contained in the ice, so that the cooler is better 'adapted for domestic purposes.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent` l. rIlle combination of an exterior body, an interior lwaterrec"`eptacle having a funnelshaped end, an interior supporting-frame for the water-receptacle, an ice-receptacle arranged around the funnel of the water-receptacle, and a discharge-faucet connected to the lower end of the funnel, substantially as setf nel, E,`an interior supporting-frame, D D', f
`or the water-receptacle, an ice receptacle or `t G, arranged aroundthefunnelE, aguardcone, EZ, arranged around the funnel, and a discharge-faucet, F, connected to the lower end of the funnel, substantially as specified. y
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my 1o invention I have signed my naine in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
CHARLES F. VISLOI-I.
