Description
UNITED- STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
GEORGE P. COLE, OF HUDSON, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO OLEMON S HATHAWAY,
OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN COLLAR- PADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,151, dated July 18, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE I. COLE, of Hudson, in the county of Lenawee and in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Pads; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a collar-pad, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the pad with the ends of the collar attached, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same.
A represents the pad, provided on its upper side with a steel spring-plate, B. This is riveted in such shape as to hold it to its shape and let the pad spring enough to fit any horses neck, large or small, adjusting itself to the same. Across the center of-the pad is riveted a strap, 0, under which pass the straps D D for attaching or securing the ends of the collar together. E E represent the ends of the collar. From the center downward, on one side, is attached a slotted metallic strap, G, to attach the collar to, by means of a rivet going through the collar, as shown in Fig. 2. Thus the pad remains on the collar when the collar is unbuckled.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is
In combination with the end E of the collar and its rivet w, the pad A, spring-plate B, and slotted metal strap G, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of May, 1871.
GEORGE P. COLE.
WVitnesses THOMAS J. HILLER, J AS. B. PRATT.
