Specification of Letters Patent.
. Application filed March 27,1915. Serial No. 17,444. A
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL GLAxoN, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at New York, in thecounty of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collars, ofwhich the following is a specification.
This invention relates broadly to improvement's'in' turn-down collars, and has specific reference to what are popularly known as soft turn-down collars as distinguished from stifi' collars which are so renvention resides in substituting for'the usual links heretofore employed for connecting the meeting edges of a soft turn-down collar, a pair of tabs applied to the edge portions of the turned over flange of the collar and at the ends thereof, and in having the said tabs provided with button holes arranged so as to register with the button holes in the neck band of a collar when these are connected to the collar button so that the button holes of the tab may readily receive the front collar button which extends through the button holes of the neck band of the collar.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the collar showing a tie applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the end portions of the collar.
The collar comprises a neckband 1 which is provided in the vicinity of its ends with the usual button-holes 2. An outer fold of material 3is connected with the upper edge of the neckband 1 in any suitable manner. and is adapted'to lie along the outer side ofthe said neckban'd when the collar is in position upon a shirt. T abs 4 are attached to the ends of the outer. fold 3 and extend down from the upper edge of the band 1. The end portions of the tabs 4 project beyond the Patented Feb. 1,1916.
; ends of the folds 3 and the lower edges of the said tabs arespaced from the lower edge of the fold 3. The tabs 4 are provided with button-holes 5 which are adapted to register with the button-holes 2 when the collar is in position and all of the said button-holes -may rece ve the shank of the same'collar button. The baton-holes 5i n the tabs 4 lie beyond the ends of the fold 3 and the upper portions of the tabs 4 are located behlnd the ends of the upper portions of the fold 3. When thecollar is applied the button-holes 2 are passed over the shank of a collar button and the scarf 6 is placed inpositionabout the neckband 1 and under the fold 3.
The said scarf is then-tied'at the front of thecollar and the tabs 4 are assed down. under the fold and the button-holes 5 are passed around the shank of the collar button. Therefore it will-be seen" that the bow of the tie is held in proper position at the front of the collar andthe end ortions of the fold 3 are held in snug tower the neckband and tle presence of the said tabs upon the ends 0 t fold from wrinkling or curling while the collar is being worn. Furthermore it will be seen that means is rovided for securely holding the end portions of the foldwithout using links or similar devices exposed to view. Furthermore it will be seen'tha-t the structure of the collar is simple and therefore it is cheap to manufacture and may be readily-laundried by'machinery usually employed for this purpose. I
aving described the invention what is claimed is: v
A collar comprising a neckband and an outer fold, theneckband being provided with button-holes located in the vicinity of its ends, tabs attached to the end portions of the fold and projecting beyond the ends thereof at points between the upper and lower edges of the fold, saidtabs having button-holes adapted to register with the button-holes in the neckbands In testimony whereof. I atlix mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
