Description

PATENTE JUL Y1 187g UNITED STATES SAMUEL STROOCK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN ICF-BAGS.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,013, dated July 11, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL STRoocK, of New York, in the county of New York and State of N ew York, have invented certain Improvements iii-Bags for Holding and Preserving Ice, of Which the following lis a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
My invention consists in awallet or receptacle of hair felt for containing and preserving ice.
Figure 1 represents a face view of one of my wallets, and Fig. 2 a cross-section of the saine with a block of ice therein.
Among housekeepers, travelers, excursionists, and others, there is agreat desire for a cheap and portable ice-preserver 5 and to supply this demand is the object of my invention. To this end it consists in providing a sack or receptacle of hair felt, in which the ice may be placed and closely enveloped. The hair, besides being' one of the best-known non-conductors of heat, produces a very strong felt, which is not materially affected by moisture, and which also possesses the advantage of being quite cheap. The bag or receptacle may be inade of a rectangular', cylindrical, or other forni, and of one or several thicknesses of felt, and it should be provided with a iiap or cover, by which it can be closed perfectly tight.
The ice being placed Within the receptacle and the latter closed up tightly the i'ce will be preserved for a longer period than if placed in the best refrigerator.
My preserver is cheap and durable, and when not required for use it may be folded up in a iiat forni and laid aside.
If desired, the Wallet may be provided with a handle by which to carry it. The Wallet may be formed by cutting the felt into the require d shape and sewing it together, or it may be felted in shape without seams, as may be found best.
Having thus described iny invention, What I claim is- As 'a new article of manufacture, a felt bag or Wallet for preserving ice, substantially as herein described.
SAMUEL STROOGK.
