SERENA M. QARNES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SAD-IRON HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 294,196, dated February 26, 1884. Application filed July 6, 1883. (ModeL) Z aZZ whom it may concern: v
Be it known that I, SERENA M. CARNES, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Sad-Iron Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to certain improvements in my new and improved sad-iron holder shown and described in Patent No. 269,006, dated December 12, 1882; and the invention consists in attaching the clasp-spring of the holder to the under side of the pad in such manner that the pad will be free to open out away from the handle of the iron when the hand of the user is removed, thus admitting circulation of air to the under side of the pad for keeping it cool.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the sad iron having my improved holder applied to the handle thereof, and Fig. 2 is an'inverted plan View of the holder.
The pad A is an ordinary holder or pad, made of cloth or ofany other suitable non-conducting material, and the springB is by preference of the same form as that shown and described in my above-mentioned patent, and is adapted for clasping the handle 0 of the sad-iron for holding the pad A in place on the handle, as will be understood from Fig. 1.
The spring B, instead of being inclosed in the pad or holder, as in said patent, is attached to the under side of the pad A, at or near the center of the pad, by the loops at a, passed around the ends of the spring and stitched or otherwise secured to the underside of the pad. In' this manner it will be seen that the spring may be easily applied to thehandle of thesadiron, that it will hold the pad A securely in place on the handle when the hand of the user is removed from the pad, and that when the hand is so removed the pad is left freeto open out away from the handle to the position shown in Fig. 1, admitting free circulation of In a sad-iron holder, the combination, with the pad, of the clasp-spring connected to the under side of and externally to the pad, and curved to immediately clasp the sad-iron haudle, whereby the holder or pad is enabled to open out from the handle and remain connected thereto, substantially as and for the p urpose set forth.
