Description

UNITED massa G. ,o/s'rLLson7 or DERBY, ooNNEcrrcUr.
IMPROVEMENT in Lamas ELASTIC suPeoRTERs.'
Speciiieation forming part of Letters Patent No. `116,8t32, dated July 11, 1871.
i To all fwhom'z't may concern:
Be it known that l', G. C. SrinnsoN, of Derby, in the county of New Haven and State of Gonnecticut, have invented a new and Improved Supporter for Catainenial Bandages; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and ex! act description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part o tlns speciiication, in which- Figure 1, Iplate 1, is a View ofthe back part of.v
Similar letters ofreference indicate correspolld- A ing parts in theseveral gnres.
l Theobjeot ofthis invention is to providea support for a. catamenial bandage which shall maintain its proper position on the body and al- A low afree movement thereof without exerting undue' pressure on the parts with which it is in contact.
The following is a description of my improved supporter: j
In the accompanying drawings, A represents `a triangular back piece, which is composed of two or more thicknesses of cloth stitched together, with a shirred ring, B1, between them at the lower angle. rllhis birclrpiece is cut so as to conform as near as possible to the shape of that part of the body to which it is applied. To the outside of the two extremities ofthe back piece A buckles are sewed for receiving elastic straps C C, which are seciu'ed to the extremities of a triangular apron or stomacher, B. The apron or front piece B is made smaller thanthe back' piece,
and it also has sewed between the thicknesses of cloth at its lower angle a shirred ring, B2. The Shirred rings B1 B2 are sewed to the pieces A and B, so as` to incloseand' hold about one-fourth of these rings, and the saidv pieces are scored out to leave free openings through the rings. I cover the India-rubber rings g by meansof gathered cloth i', for the purpose of preventing the India rubber from parting should there be too Y great a strain brought upon the rings.
It will be'seen from the above description tha-t the supporter consists: 1st, of an adj ust-able belt or band for the body, which' is partly elastic, and can be made larger or smaller by means of .the
two elastic straps C C and buckles a a, and thus accommodated to persons of different sizes. 2d,
it consists of a wide back piece and a wide front I piece, which will accommodate themselves comtorta-bly to the body, and'cause the draft oi' the bandage N (see Fig. 4) to fall in the median line of the body. `3d, it also consists of two elastic rings or loops, which are coyered wit-h sta-y or safety-pieces h h, that will prevent liability of the inclosed rubber breaking and allowing the bandage to become detached from the body. 4th, the front piece and the back piece are connected together in such manner that the rims B1 B2 can be vreadily adjusted in the median line of the body, whatever may be the diameter ofthe body.
In addition to the advantages above set forth, my supporter also aiiords great facility for at taching to and detaching from it the bandage or towel N, which is done by passing theend of the -folded bandage through the elastic rings Bl B2,
and securing them byl safetypins s s.
I am aware` that supporters for catamemal bandages have been patented before my invention, wherein elastic and non-elastic belts were employed, having loops attached in front and behind. One great objection to such supporters is, that they do not permit` the freedom of motion ofthe body without causing injurious strain and pressure upon the parts. By my invention the bandage will be held by elastic supports directly in the central lineof the body. lt will be drawn up in close contact with the parts without causing undue pressure, and it can be readily drawn to one side or detached at pleasure.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters latentl 1. A cat amenial supporter, which combines in its construction two triangular pieces', A and B, two elastic straps, C C, two buckles, a a, and two elastic rings,I B1 B2, substantially as described.
2. rIhe elastic rings, stayedw and covered by cloth, and attached to the front and back pieces A B, the lai er being connected together by elastic stra-ps which are adjustable, to allow said rings to be kept in the -median line of the body, substantially as described.
G. C. STILLSON.
