Description

C. F. PORIER.
- HAIR DRESSING FOUNDATION.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. l I915.
Patented Jan. 4, 1916.
' CHARLES F. PORTER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HAIR-DRESSING FOUNDATION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 4, 1916.
Application filed September 1, 1915. Serial No. 48,413.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES F. PORTER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair- Dressing Foundations, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to hair foundations used in dressing the hair, and particularly to the type of foundation which produces a short roll or psyche-knot.
One object of my invention is to provide a foundation for hair dressing upon which the hair is folded to increase the volume of the hair when it is dressed.
Another object is to provide a foundation for hair dressing to which the hair may be secured to produce a knot or puff.
Another object is to provide a foundation for hair dressing upon which the hair may be wrapped to produce a knot or puii, the foundation being formed to fit the head.
Another object is to provide a simple, light hair-supporting foundation which may be cheaply made and easily applied and which provides a ventilating space for the hair and which if desired may be readily cleaned.
Other and further objects and advantages will appear from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and will be pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, in which like characters of reference indicate similar parts, Figure 1 illustrates the manner in which a hair foundation embodying my invention is applied; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a hair foundation embodying my invention.
The hair foundation which has been illustrated by the drawings and which embodies the preferred form of my invention, comprises a foundation which is crescent-shaped throughout its longitudinal extent and which is triangular in cross section. The hair foundation includes a base which is made up of the end members 1 and 2 and side members 3 and 4. The side members are connected to the extremities of the end members and the end members and side members are respectively parallel. The members thus form a polygonal base and each of the members is so curved that the base fits comfortably upon the head.
1 Connecting the intermediate portions of the end members is a curved top member 5 which has a greater rate of curvature than the s de members 4 so that it extends above using this foundation consists in wrapping it up in the hair by rolling the hair upon it, beginning at the ends of the hair, and securing the foundation which is thus wrapped up to the head. It will be seen that in using the foundation in this manner a knot or puff is produced which is rounded on the upper or outer surface and pressed down closely against the head on its under surface. 7
While I have described my foundation with great detail, I do not intend that my invention shall be limited to the specific features shown and described, but intend that modifications which occur to those skilled in the art may be made, and that my invention shall be defined by the hereunto appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A hair frame comprising an elongated base, including spaced side members and end portions, said side-members being bent to permit said base to fit the head of the wearer and lying substantially Within planes perpendicular to a plane passing through the ends of the base, a hair supporting member having a greater rate of curvature than the side members and lying in a plane substantially parallel with the planes of the side members and extending from one end portion to the other, and hair supporting and bracing members extending from said side members to said hair supporting member intermediate the ends thereof, all of said members forming a frame adapted to be rolled with the hair of the wearer thereon to increase the volume thereof. 7
name to this specification.
CHARLES F. PORTER.
