Description
UNITED STATES PATENT QEEIOE.
CALVIN CROWELL, OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO DANIEL D. SMITH, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHIRT-BOSOM EX'PANDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,687, dated July 4, 1871.
To alL whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CALVIN CROWELL, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented an Improved Shirt- Bosom Expander; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this speciiication, in Which- Figure l is a front View, and Fig. 2 a side orV edge view of my invention.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
The object of this invention is to provide a light elastic frame-work for holding the shirtbosom fair and smooth, and to prevent it from absorbing perspiration by holding it from contact with the person, as hereinafter more fully described.
This I construct by taking a thin strip of spring metal, A, and fastening upon it a series of crossarms or bars, a a. It is worn behind the bosom of the shirt, and is secured thereto by a button at each end, the upper button B having a silver or gold finish, and buttoning through the heckband or collar of the shirt, while the lower button b is bnttoned to the shirt at the waistband or lower part of the bosom.
By these means perspiration cannot soil the bosom, and it is prevented from wrinkling, adding materially to neatness of dress. The bosom will be held extended without the arms a a, which are used more especially for keeping it out free from the person.
II( ving thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A shirt-bosom expander, composed of the longitudinal strip A, and transverse pieces a a attached thereto, the device being provided with buttons B b for securing it to the shirt-band and bosom, all constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described.
The above speciiication of my invention signed by me this 24th day of April, 1871.
CALVIN CROWELL.
