Specification cf Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 4t, 19,15.
Application filed March 2, 1915. Serial N o. 11,513.
To all r11/wm t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HARRY N. GoLpsMrrri, a ct'en of the United States, and residing in Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelv phia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lReversible fall-Tiles; and do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of said improvement, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use .the same.
The herein described device relatesto a novel, attractive and useful means for holding toilet paper, papertowels, advertising literature and the like, and to provide for the ready and accessible distribution of the same, and has for an object in connection with the foregoing to provide a tile of such construction as to be manufactured at small cost; preventing waste; littering of floors; with no torn or crumbled contents to be destroyed before obtaining a satisfactory result; the device has no complicated parts to break or work loose, method of installation of simple form, and, after once installed, will last indefinitely; the device requires no rollers, springs or weights in its operation, occupying no space when set flush with wall tiling or wood work, and very little space when necessary to use in a reverse position.
l/Vhile the foregoing explains the general purpose and objects of the device, `other objects and advantages will appear in the specifications that follow, in which the novel features, construction and arrangement will be brought out, described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating numerals, is illustrated the preferred form of the embodiments of the invention capable of carrying the same into effect and practical operation, it being understood that the invention is' not necessarily limited thereto, as various changes in shape and proportions may be resorted to without departing from the principle of the invention, or sacrificing any of its advantages, in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing the flat surface. Fig. 2 is a view in perspective showing the extented member.'
Fig. 3 is a section on the line Z-Z in Fig. 1. To more fully describe the drawings, and
to make clear the installation, operation and purpose of the herein described device;-
the numeral l is significative of a box like,
containing member formed to the relatively larger flat surface member 2; the numeral 3 represents the sides of the containing member; 4 represents the place for inserting the contents into the retaining member l and for a ready distribution of the same; 5 Arep? resents Vthe placein the flat surfacemembfer 2 for inserting contents into the containing member l and for the ready distribution of the, same when the reversible tile is used as a flush member with a wall; 6 shows the top and bottom of the containing member which keeps the contents in alinement.
In operation, when used as a flush tile member with a wall, the member l is placed in the place provided, either in building the wall or by removing av blank tile, and plas-y tered into position, leaving the member 2 flush with the rest of the tiling of the wall and becoming a part thereof, in this manner occupying no space whatever. Should it be that the wall or partition would not be of sulicient thickness for a large tile or the insertion ofthe member l into the same, the part 2 can be cemented in leaving the part l to extend laterally therefrom and becoming a part of the wall tiling, and owing to the construction and nature of the contents occupy less space than the devices as at pres` ent provided. lVhen closets are connected by a thin tiled partition this is especially adapted, as it prevents theft, ungainly bolts and screws, or wire supports which become rusted, to hold the paper holder in place. Should it be desired that the holder or reversible tile be used temporarily as the ordinary holder while improvements are being 9 made, small holes can be` drilled 1n the back of the flat surface as shown by the dotted circles in the drawings.
F or a ready filling of the containing member or reversible outlets, toilet paper of the sort prepared to interlap one sheet into the feld of another, making a continuous chain, is provided or employed, vinstead of the round roll or single sheet, inserting the bundle by a slight bend into either the outlet,
which can also be termed the inlet, numbered l or 5, dependentfupon which is exposed for use. One sheet of paper is started which brings the others into position for securing. Paper towels constructed on the mail same principle can also be used in the device. Advertising literature can be readily ol tained.
`lt is to be understood that the device is not alone applicable to tiling; but can also be constructed of Wood of the same style and color used in'railway coaches, or Wherever used.
Having` thus described my invention, what l claim new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A one piece reversible tile in combination a flat member with a relatively smaller laterally extending member thereto adapted to be used with the said flat member asa dispensing feature or in a reverse position with the said laterally extending member presenting a` dispensing feature, all as set forth.
2. A one piece tile in combination a flat member maintaining a rear member, said rearmember adapted to be used in a reverse position, said flat member presenting a dispensing feature and said rear member when used in a reverse position presenting a. dis pensing feature, all as shown and described. 3. A one piece reversible tile in combination a flat member adaptable as a front mem` ber or a rear member, a relatively smaller member extending from said flat member adaptable to be used as a front member or a rear member, each of said members presenting a dispensing feature, all as before shown and described.
In testimony whereof l affix my signature in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
