JOHN H. MINQR, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
PROGRAM-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 24, 1912.
Patented Dec. 31, 1912.
Serial No. 705,465.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OI-IN H. MINOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Program- Holders, of which the following is a specifi cation.
This invention relates to a sanitary program holder, and consists of a simple, inexpensive device adapted to be suspended at any convenient point from an opera-chair, or the like.
One object of the invention is to overcome the waste of pro rams resulting from their being carried 0%, or cast upon the floors of theaters and other places of public entertainment.
A further object is to eliminate the unsanitary conditions resulting from the practice in a number of theaters of collecting programs, which have been thrown upon the floor, for future use.
Other objects of the invention will hereinafter appear, and in order that said invention may be fully understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective of the device in open position ready to receive a program. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the device in open position and provided with a program. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail showing means whereby a pintle forming part of the device, may be removed preparatory to inserting a program in said device.
Like reference numerals refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views.
1 designates the device which is constructed, preferably, of sheet-aluminum, and comprises a cover consisting of a pair of sections 2 having hinge-members 3, a pintle 4, which operably connects said hinge-members'3, and a resilient retaining-strip 5 pivotally mounted upon the pintle 4t and extending, preferably, the entire length of the sections 2.
Pintle 4 has an eye 6 at one end and an integral key 7 at its opposite end, which, when turned crosswise to a slot 8 in the lower portion of retaining strip 5, looks the several parts of the device in assembled position, but when turned one-fourth of a revolution, may be withdrawn from the lower loop 9 of the retaining-strip so that the same may be raised to admit a program A.
Retaining-strip 5 has a longitudinal recess 10 extending from one of the loops 9 to the other, to admit the program A, which is opened at its central portion, so that onehalf of its leaves will lie on one side of the retaining-strip and the other half on the opposite side of said retaining-strip, as shown on Fig. 2.
I have found in practice that a program may be inserted by merely turning the retaining-strip 5 down almost parallel with one of the sections 2 and then bowing said retaining-strip to enlarge the space between the edge of recess 10 and the sections 2 sutti' ciently to admit slipping a program in place. After the program has been placed in position, retaining-strip 5 is released and permitted to resume its normal position.
.The inner edge of recess 10 engages the program with suflicient pressure to reliably hold the same in place.
In order to'prevent the device from being carried off, I secure it to any convenient part of an opera chair or other seat, through the intermediacy of a small chain or cable 11, attached at one end to eye 6.
From the foregoing description it is apparent that I have produced a device which I is very efiicient for the purpose intended and while I have shown the preferred construction of the device, I, of course, reserve the right to make such changes as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A device of the character described, consisting of two sections having hinge mem In testimony whereof I aflix my signabers, a pintle extending through said hinge ture, in the presence oftwo Witnesses. members and having a flat end, and'a remining-strip having a loop at each end op- JOHN H. MINOR. erably mounted on the plntle, one of said loops having a slot extending therethrough Witnesses: for the passage of the flat end of the pintle E. C. LILLZLAN, when turned to register therewith. F. G. FISCHER.
