To all 'whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, RYUJI SATO, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt-End Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to belt-end attachments designed to embody garment supporters.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a simplified belt-end. attachment which will embody in itself an effectual garment supporter.
This object is attained by means of a novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the device in use; Fig. 2-is a perspective view, showing the device partly applied to the garment, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a fragment of the device provided with a modified form of clasp.
Referring specifically to the drawing, the main portion of the device comprises a belt 5, the ends of which are folded over to form loops 6 which may be lengthened or shortened by buckles 7 in the same manner as the front portions of suspenders. Thus the belt may readily be adjusted to difierent waist measures.
In each loop 6 is held a support for a safety pin and a clasp, said support comprising a bar 8 fitting vertically within the loop and having outwardly projecting top and bottom bars 9 extending in the direction of the length of the belt, which bars may be formed intergral with the bar 8 by bending the same. The outer ends of the bars 9 are formed with eyes 10 by which a safety pin 11 is secured, the latter being vertically positioned. To the bottom bar 9 is secured a garment clasp which may be a loop 12 having a wedge-slot. Fig. 3 shows a modified form of clasp, the same comprising a loop 13 associated with a clamping button 14 alapted to be inserted into said loop, the button being carried by a flexible tongue 15. Any other form of garment clasp may be employed. The clasp is located close to the safety pin, and it is so mounted that it coincides with the inner face and bottom edge of the belt. Midway between the ends of the belt 5, on the outer face thereof, is secured a supplementary fastening in the form of a safety pin 16, the same also extending vertically or transversely of the belt, in the same manner as the safety pins 11 In use, the belt 5 is passed around the back of the persons waist, inside the waistband 17 of the trousers 18, and made fast to the waist-band by the pins 11 and 16. The belt will be adjusted as to length so that its ends come slightly forward of the sides or hip portions of the waist-band, to which latter it is secured by the pins 11. The pin 16 serves to fasten the belt at the back of the waist-band. The shirt 19 is then gathered at the side seams and engaged with clasps 12. The trousers are now held suspended from the shirt Without requiring the use of unsightly and uncomfortable suspenders. The manner of attaching the belt does not wrinkle the waist-band of the trousers, and the appearance of the garment is not marred. lVrinkling is also prevented by mounting the safety pins transversely of the belt, so that they are vertical when applied to the waist-band. By locating the shirt clasps close to the front safety pins, the belt is prevented from turning by being pulled upward with the shirt, and as the clasps are secured in line with the bottom edge of the belt, on the inside thereof, they are entirely concealed from view, as clearly shown in the drawing. The safety pin 16 is also concealed. The belt extends only about half way around the waist, and it is therefore cheaper to manufacture, as less material is required.
The device can be quickly and easily ap plied, and by its use the trousers are securely supported without discomfort to the wearer.
I claim:
1. A belt end attachment comprising, in combination, a U-shaped frame having a straight bight and parallel legs arranged at right angles to the bight, each of the legs being provided with an eye at its extremity, a safety-pin having an eye in each end engaged by the eyes of the frame, the safetypin forming garment-attaching means and the bight of the frame being arranged for attachment of a belt, and a garment clasp pivoted on one of the legs.
