Be it known that I, RICHARD WIDLEiF,.su bject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Liverpool, in the county of Lancaster, in the Kingdom of England, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsfin Means for Supporting Covers for Dresses and the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improved means for supporting covers and'the like, and'is especially applicable for supporting the covers usually placed over dresses at night when the dresses are in shop windows or show rooms.
A characteristic feature of the invention is that a flexible band, rigid in the direction of its width (to which a cover is connected) is secured to the top of a. stand, insuch manner that it can be bent to bring its opposite edges into proximity, and so close the cover around the article on the stand, or be opened to expose the said article andforma background.
The invention will be understood from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front view of my invention showing the cover'closedso as to protect a dress; and Fig. 2, a similar view showing the cover open so as to expose the dress and form a background therefor; Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views; Fig. 3 being afront view, and Fig. 4, a plan view of the support open, and extended to its full length, and Fig. 5 a perspective view of the support closed and contracted to its shortest length.
According to this invention a-cover such as A is attached to a flexible band B rigid in the direction of its width, preferably of spring steel, which is secured to the top of a dress stand of usual construction such as C. Preferably the band whose lower edge is provided with eyes D to receive hooks on the cover A, is secured to a plate E which may be fixed to the top of the dress stand C by a headed screw such as F.
The flexible band B may be made in two or more parts capable of sliding upon one another, so making the band extensible. In the drawing the part B of the band is seplate E, while the parts B and B are capable of sliding on the part B, the straps C keeping the parts B B B together while permitting longitud nal movement of the parts B and B v Specification of Letters Patent.

An arrangement for covering dresses and the like comprising a support having a member fixed at its upper end, a flexible band secured to said member and adapted to assume an open position with the end separated and a closed position, and a cover supported by said band and adapted to form a dust proof connection with said band and said member when said band is in the closed position.

An arrangement for covering dresses and the like, comprising in combination a flexible bandrigid in the direction of its width, a support for said band, a cover, devices fixed along the flexible band to which said cover is attached, said flexible band being fixed to said support in such manner that it can be bent around into a closed loop or opened out into a curve or straight line so as to enable the cover to completely surround the dress and to be opened out without any rubbing contact relative to the dress.
