Description

E. T. SCHNELLER NECKTIE.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 8. 1914.
1,164,756. v Patented Dec. 21, 1915.
EDWARD T. SCHNELLEB, O F PALISADES, COLORADO.
NECKTIE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 21. 1915.
Application. filed May 8, 1914. Serial No. 837,292.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD T. SCHNEL- min, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Palisades, in the county of Mesa and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neckties, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates principally to the foundation-portion of neckties and the application thereto and maintenance thereon of the fabric-portions thereof; and it consists of certain new and useful features of construction and arrangement of the members comprising such foundation-portion and the application thereto and disposition thereon of such fabric-portions thereof.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improvement applied to a turn-down collar. Fig. 2 is a rear e evation of the same, detached from its collar. Fig. 3 is the same as Fig. 2-showing thumbs and fingers of operator completing the operation of tying the fabric-portion thereof thereon. Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the foundation-portion of my in'iproven'ient having the fabric-portion thereof passed through the horizontal slot therein. Fig. 5 is an isometrical detail view of the same, minus the fabric-portion thereof. Figs. (5 and 7 are front elevations also of the same, with the fabric-portion thereof in positions to illustrate steps in the process of tying the latter 'thereonto.
Like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughoutthe several views of the drawings.
The foundation-portion 1, of my improve ment, consists of two preferably symmetrically and substantially vertically arranged members 2 and 3, preferably widened at their upper ends 4 and 5to' insure stable hearing contact thereof with the crease of a collar (3provided, at their lower end-portions, with rigid. transverse studs 7 and 8 for insertion through stud-holes 9 and 10, in a collar 6-and connected, near their upper ends, by a transverse and longitudinallyslotted bar 11, having backwardlyand upwardlyprojecting fabric-retaining points 12 thereon.
The part just described can be most advantageously produced by stamping it out of a sheet of metal-preferably brassb v means of a combined stampingand forming die. The studs'7 and 8 of the same-may be inserted therethrough and s aged thereinto.
One end of the fabric-portion 13 of the tie is inserted and drawn through the slot 1% in the bar 11, Fig. 5. The right-hand edge 15 thereof, Fig. 4., is turned to a parallel position, and the i'ctainingpoints 12 are inserted therethrough. The lower end of the fal)i'ic1')o1-tion is next folded horizontally across the front of the central portion of the foundation-portion 1, Fig. 6. The remaining portion thereof is then brought forward around the horizontal portion of the same, between the ends 4 and 5 of the part 1, Fig. 6, and the fold 16 thereof is tucked through its central loop 17, Fig. 7. The ends of the fabric-portion 13 are thereafter drawn in oppositedirections, by the thumbs and fingers, Fig. 3, until the. same is made to assume the particular degree of tautness desired by the operator or weareras in Fig. 2. h
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The necktie former of a necktie, comprising two preferably symn'ietricall and substantially vertical]y-arranged members,
preferably widened, at their upper ends to insure stable bearing contact thereof with the crease of a collar, and connected, near their upper ends, by a longitudinally-slotted tansverse bar, having backwardlyand 11pwardly-projecting fabric-retaining points thereon, substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
2. The necktie former of a necktie, comprising two preferably symn'ietricallyand substantially vertically-arranged members, preferably widened, at their upper ends to insure stable bearing contact thereof with the crease of a collarprovided, at their lower end-portions, with rigid transverse studshr insertion threugh-stud holes in 1n testimony whemof I have hereilnte set eoller imd) c0nnected, near their upper Imy hand this 2%11 day of March, in the 10 ends, by a longitudinally-slotted transverse 'presence of two Witnesses. v
7 .bar, havingbeckwardlyand upwardly-prov 1ecting fabric-retaining points thereon and EDWARD S the fabric-portien thereof applied to. such Witnesses: necktie former, substantially as described L. L. MQRRISON, and for the'purnose specified. v JAMEs C. GRANT.
