Description

MILO S M'ITH.
Improvement in S'pove-Pip ShelvesL No, 116,233 Patente-dJune 20J871 whewffi Luff/d0). 42% W yd my I I I I PATENT OFFICE.
MILO SMITH, OF CLINTON, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PIPE SHELVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 116,233, dated June 20, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILO SMITH, of Clinton, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Stove-Pipe Shelves; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference beinghad to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a front view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same.
My invention has for its object an improved mode of attaching to perpendicular stove-pipes metallic shelves, on which dishes or other articles to be kept warm may be placed.
In the drawing, A shows a metallic disk, constructed in ornamental open work. B is a slot reaching from theouter rim of the disk to the center thereof, through which center the stove-pipe passes. 0 represents an open-work metallic section, of equal width with the slot B, within which it fits. The inner end of said section is semicircular and concave, to form, with the inner end of the slot'B, a circular aperture for the stove-pipe. l) are slotted studs depending from the under side of the disk, on each side of the slot B, for the purpose of hold ing the lateral projections D extending from the under side of the section 0. D represents similar projections, but extending laterally from the top part of said section so as to rest upon the disk. The shelf is arranged for use by removing the section 0 and sliding the disk on the stove-pipe until the latter touches the inner end of the slot B. The loose section is then placed in the slot and the inner end allowed to hang down, the projections D sup porting it, the lugs D being directly underneath the studs D. In this position the upper edge of the inner end of the loose section is in contact with the pipe. The disk is then pressed down until its face is even with that of the loose section, which secures the shelf in place. The outer rim of this shelf is constructed a little below the level of the main portion, which allows the arrangement of extensions, clothesbars, and the like, as shown at E, the same being a representation of a sectionalextension corresponding in ornamental configuration with the disk.
. Having described myinvention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is
The extension E, constructed and arranged as shown, in combination with the disk A having a dependent rim, as described, slot B, studs D, and section 0 having lateral projections D D, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
MILO SMITH.
