' Be it known that 1, CHARLES S. WALDO, Jr., citizen of the United States, and resident of Brookline, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Covers for Ash-Cans, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to covers for ash cans and similar receptacles, and its object is to provide a novel and improved cover, suitable for use on any usual form of ash can, to keep the can tightly closed except. when materials are being put in,'and more v i above the top of the can, so that the lid does not swing down into the can when opened,

thus leaving the entire space in the can free to receive the materials to the very top.

Thus the'can may be filled to' its top without interfering with the operation of the lid.

The part of the platform which extends into the casing and forms the shelf?) serves as a stop to limit the downward movement of the lid and to hold it in an inclined position, as shown, so that it serves as an inclined chute for the ashes being inserted. In that position the lidcovers the shelf 6 and prevents any of the ashes from lodging thereon.
