have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Mountings, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in window mountings.

The object of the invention is to provide a window of the character described, mounted so that it may be opened and closed by revolving same, either upon a horizontal or a vertical axis.

A further feature of the invention resides in the provision of means, whereby said window may be locked in a closed position.

With the above and otherobjects in view, the invention has particular relationto certain novel features of construction, operation and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1, is a side elevation of the window mounted in its casing. Fig.2, is a sectional edge view thereof, showing, in dotted lines, the windows as swung open on both their horizontal and vertical axes. Fig. 3, is a horizontal sectional view thereof. Fig. 1, shows a fragmentary view thereof, illustrating a means of locking the windows in a closed position. Fig. 5, shows a section of a wall provided with a window showing a modified form of the mounting. Fig. 6, shows a fragmentary view of the window, illustrating the locking means, and Fig. 7, shows a sectional view thereof.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the window opening in the forms shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4, is surrounded by a casing iaving the j ambs 1, 1, and the top and bottom 2, .-I- This casing is separated by the transverse bar 3, into two sections, making provisions for the upper and lower sashes I 1, at, which are hinged on their corresponding sides to the upper and lower supplemental stiles 5, 5, in vertical alinement, one above the other. These supplemental stiles are in terposed between the top and bottom 2, 2, respectively, and the intermediate bar 3, and fit closely against one of said jambs 1, respectively. The opposite jamb 1, is provided with a latch 6, which is cylindrical in form and slidable the socket 7. This latch may be moved back and forth in its socket by means of the thumb-knob 8, which is integral therewith and projects out through an oblong slot 9. By moving said knob inwardly, the free end of the latch is projected out from the inner edge of said jamb and into the corresponding socket in the free edge of the opposite sash, and the sash thus latched in closed position. The inner end of slot 9, has a laterally extending notch 10, in which the shank of the thumbknob may be seated and the latch thus locked against movement. A latch of this character is provided for each of the sashes and opposite said latches are pins 11, 11, whose ends fit in alined sockets in the respective supplemental stiles 5, 5, and the correspond ing side member 1, said latches and pins thus forming pivots upon which the sashes may be swung on their horizontal axes. The

upper and lower ends, respectively, of said I stiles 5, 5, are provided with similar latches, which engage with the top and bottom 2, 2,

and the intermediate bar 3, when it is de-' sired to lock the sashes against rotation on their horizontal axes. l/Vhen s0 locked the latches 6, 6, may be disengaged from the free sides of the sashes and said sashes may then be swung around on their vertical axes and opened.

In Fig. 5, the form of mounting is some what modified the sash 4 being pivoted at each side by means of the pins 12, 12, whose respective ends fit in alined sockets in the respective sides of the sashes and the adjacent window j ambs. These windows may be opened by turning them on a horizontal axis, operating on the pins 12, 12, as pivots. As shown in said Fig. 5, these sashes may also be equipped with hinges 13, 13, and when so equipped may be opened in the ordinary way, operating on a vertical axis. When it is desired to operate said sashes on a horizontal axis, the- hinges 13, 13, are discarded and when operating on a vertical axis, the pins 12, 12, are discarded.

I have shown only two forms of this device, but it is obvious that the same may be varied in mechanical structure without departing from the principle of the invention,

and I hereby reserve the right to make such mechanical changes therein as will not de,

part from the scope of the appended claim.

What I claim is The combination with a casing having to said supplemental stile, so as to revolve on a Vertical axis and pivotal connections in horizontal alinement, whereby the free edgev of said sash and said supplemental stile, re-
