Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,768, dated J one 6, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. PAGETT, of Oxford, in the county of Benton and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Door-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a bottom view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the same.
The invention consists in a novel construction and arrangement of a beveled latch attached to the side of a horizontal stop, and hinged at its rear end to a rigid plate, together with a coiled spring placed on a bolt, and operating with said latch at right angles thereto.
In the accompanying drawing, illustrating this invention, A represents a plate well secured to the wall at the hingeside of the door, and on a line with the top of the latter, and at a distance nearly equal to the width of the door from it. B B indicate two projecting parallel lugs, holding firmly between them a horizontal strap, 0, in the outer end of which is inserted a piece of rubber, D, which projects a little outside of the recess in which it is held. When the door is thrown open it strikes against this piece of rubber, which deadens the sound and prevents all injury to the door, at the same time preventing the knob or angle from coming in contact with the wall and breaking the plaster. E represents a latch,
which rests on the upper side of the stop 0. It is hinged at the rear end to the plate A,
and at the forward end, which extends beyond ing the door either way. An anti-friction wheel, H, may be pivoted in this catch, to assist the door in passing it. The latch may be hinged to the plate A by bending or forming a log, k, on the end, and inserting it in one of the slots 1, over which are placed the cleats J. By changing the position of the latch from one to the other of these slots the device may be adapted to a right or left hand door.
I claim as my invention The beveled latch E, hinged to the plate A, in combination with the stop G, pin G, and spring 9, at right angles to E, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified.
