Description
0. FISHER.
improvement in Combined Door Fastenings and Aiarms.
No. 115,724 PatentedJun6,1871.
OSCAR FISHER, OF SMYRNA, DELAWARE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,724, dated June 6, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR Frsnnn, of Smyrna, in the county of Kent and State of Delaware, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Door-Fasten ing and Alarm; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this speci- 'fication.
, The nature of my invention consists in the combination of such devices as will be hereinafter claimed.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a perspective view of a door with an alarm, and my device for operatingthe alarm attached thereto.
A represents the door, and B the door-frame. At a suitable point near the outer edge of the dooris secured a cylindrical casing, 0, closed at both ends, and provided with an opening, a, and slot 2), as shown. Within the casing G is placed a spiral spring, (1. To the door-frame B is attached a chain, 6, having a ball, f, at its other end, the said chain being of such length that the ball may be placed in the opening a of the case G. The ball f is, by another chain, h, and hook c, connected with the lever D of an alarm-bell attached to the door. N ow, when the door is opened the chain c draws the ball f within the casing G, compressing the spring (1. This causes the chain h to pull the lever D, sounding the alarm. As soon as the door is pulled to again the spring (1 throws the ball f back to its original position, stopping the alarm. It will be noticed that the chain c also acts as a stop to prevent the door from being opened more than a certain distance sufficient to sound the alarm. When not desired to sound the alarm the hook t is released from the lever D and the ball f taken out of the casing G. The alarm may be placed in any part of the building, and connected with the ball by suitable cords or wires.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The cylindrical casing 0, provided with opening a, slot 1), and spring d, in combination with chain c and ball f, all arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with a door-frame and alarm, of the casing O with spring d, chains e h, ball f, and hook 2', all constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OSCAR FISHER.
