Be it known that I, SAMUEL KUNSTADTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hats or Caps, of which the following is a specification.'

My invention relates more particularly to hats or caps of the type involving a relatively stiff band at which the hat or cap fits on the head of the wearer, formed with an p inner band of relatively stiif material, and

also to that type of hats-or caps which involves the formation of a band,' with a section of elastic material whereby the band may be expanded to lit different sized heads.

My object is to provide a certain novel and simple improvement in bands of caps or hats, of the type wherein the band is relatively stil' and is formed with an 'elastic section. l

Referring to the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a perspective view of a tam-oshanter hat, the hand of which is constructed in accordance with my invention, this view being taken from, a point slightly be low the plane of the lower edge of the band. I have devised my improvement for use more particularly in tamoshanter hats and have, therefore, chosen to illustrate it in this connection, though without any inten-v tion of limiting the invention thereby, as the same may be used in hats of other kinds.
