Thepresent inventionv elates to an improvement in a ladys emblematic cap, particularly of the type. adaptedV to be worn by members of fraternall organizations, and has for .an object toprovide animprovedlcap structure whicl'l. ef` 5 fectually lends itself to uniform quantity production methods, and. at the same time produces a cap jot attractive and ysmart appearance. Another object-,is to provide a cap of this type which adapts itselfto productionv in various sizes Without substantial alteration inthe uniform appearance of capsof varying sizes. w

Caps of this type are `frequently Worn at large gatherings, s uch as.` conventions, parades, and the-like, andf are subjected to ,considerable ,handling-.andough usage; and it is. an object of the invention to Aprovide-a c ap structure having structural featuresjwhich permit-such usage while at the same time maintaining itsliorm-'and smartness, to the end that the caps wornby the numerous members of such'OrganiZatiOns-will all have a substantially vuniformV appearance. f Referring Vto ,the drawings,` the ladys emblematic cap`,1accor`ding to the illustrated eXemplary embodiment `of thelinventiom comprises a band portion l0, of felt orv other suitable material, joined at itsenclv edges by a vertical seam Il disposed at one side of the cap. In the illustrated embodiment of the invention the right-hand side of the cap is higher than the left-hand side, and the seam H is, therefore, substantially higher than the height of the diametrically opposite portion of the band. In forming the seam II, the marginal edges of the material are folded upon the inner surface of the cap, so that the stitching of the seam is invisible. The upper edge o the band is secured to the crown I2, o1" felt o-r other suitable material, by a seam I3, the marginal upper edge or the band and the peripheral edge of the crown being folded inwardly so that the StitchingV is invisible.

A flap member I4, also lof felt or other suitable material, and of substantially triangular form, has its upper marginal portion inserted between the edge of the band and the edge ofv the crown and secured by the stitching of the seam I3, this flap extending at each side of the vertical seam II and hanging downwardly over the seami to` conceal it. The stitching oi the seam I 3 is started at one side of the vertical seam II and ends' at the other side, so there remains an unstitched portion coincident to'and; at each: side of the upper end of the seam Ilf. The ends of' the stitching of the seam I3 are preferablyv secured; by tacking stitches I5 and I6 at each side of: the seam I I, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, and ther space between these tacking stitches constitutes an eyelet or slot opening l1, for the detachable connection of the tassel'. The lower side of this slot opening is formed by the folded-in` upper: edge of the flap I4, and the upper side is formed by the folded-in marginal portion of the crown, so that a smooth entrance portion is providedforl insertion of the tassel cordthrough the slot opening, as will presently more fully appear.

In orderto engage the tassel, the key is inserted endwiseV through the slot opening I1 to the interior of the cap, whereupon it assumes a transverse position which prevents it from being pulled outwardly. The emblem, shown in the form of a sword, comprises a base member 25` formed of felt or other suitable flexible material upon which decorative embroidery, in the form of sequins or the like 26, is secured. To the inner side of the backing member 25, there are `secured at suit.-V` able points the head partsV 21' of snap fastener members, the socket parts 28 being securedl to a protective liner member 29 provided upon the in ner side of the forward portion of the band 0fthe cap,.its lower portion being disposed beneath the head band I9, as clearly shown in Fig; 3. Theiorward portion ofthe band is provided at suitable points with holes for receiving the snap fasteners, these holes being preferablyV reinforced by metal grommets or eyelet members 30' secured. therein. Thus the attaching of the emblem also attaches the protective member 29, and through cooperation of the snap fasteners and the hat band I9, the protective member is maintained in a self-sustaining position to provide support for the forward part of the band portion of the hat where the emblem is displayed. The protective member 29 is preferably of a relatively stili nexible material which is moisture resistant, so that it maintains the form of the band beneath the emblem and protects the band portion of the cap from perspiration of the forehead.

but it will be understood that changes may be made therein, within the spirit and scope thereof, as dened in the appended claims.

What claimed is:

1. In a ladys emblematic cap, a one-piece head encircling band portion turned-in Vat the upper rim edge and having its end edges joined at one side of the cap by a substantially vertical side seam, a. curvilinear crown portionr turnedeinr at its peripheral rini edge in conformingrelation. to said turned-in rim edge of said band' portion, a ap'portion externally overlying said sider seam having an upper turned-in rimedge extending a substantial distance forwardlyv and rearwardly of said side seamand disposed between and'- conforming to the turned-in rii'n edges of said band and crown portions, and'- crown seam stitching concealed within the cap securing togetherl said turned-in rim edges of said' band, crown and'flap portions, said ap portion being freewof attachment below said stitching. 2.
