IRONING-BOARD.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CORNELIUS W. KLIEWER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Midland, in the county of Kern, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironin Boards; and I do hereby declare the fo lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The present invention is directed to improvements in ironing boards, and has for its object to provide a device of this character which may be easily and quickly adjusted to a support or table, and clamped thereto.

A. further object of the invention is to provide a board of this character so constructed that the same may be adjusted to tables or the like of various heights.

\Vith those and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the board, showing the same clamped upon a table. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 44 of Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates an ironing board proper of the usual construction, and having formed in its inner end a longitudinal recess 2 to accommodate the upper end of the leg member 8.

The leg member 3 consists of upper and lower sections '1 and 5, respectively, the upper section having formed near its upper end a transverse notch 6 for engagement with the edge of the table.

Connected to the under surface of the board 1 are plates 7, the opposing ends of which are connected by a round bar 8, said bar being arranged below the lower surface of the plates 7 so as to engage in the transverse semi-circular notch 9 formed in the upper edge of the leg section 4.

To retain the bar 8 in the notch 9 a plate 10 is provided which is secured to the upper surface of the leg section 4 so that it engages the bar 8, but allows free pivotal movement between the board and leg member 3.

One end of the plate 10 is formed with a flange 11 which engages in a transverse groove 12 formed in the leg section 4, thus preventing danger of the clothes being ironed from becoming torn.

The upper leg section 4 is provided near its lower end with a longitudinal slot 13 which is adapted to register with a similar slot 14 formed in the lower leg section 5.

Passing through the slots 13 and 14 is a bolt 15, upon opposite ends of which are mounted plates 16, the side edges of which terminate in right angle flanges 17 said flanges being so arranged as to embrace the sides of the respective leg section.

From this construction it will be seen that a board may be quickly attached to a table or other support and firmly clamped thereto and that the leg sections may be adjusted upon manipulation of the bolt 15 to tables of different heights, the flanges 17 of the plates 16 serving to prevent lateral displacement of the leg sections.

What is claimed is The combination with an ironing board, of a rectangular loop secured to and extending downwardly from the under face thereof, a supporting leg having a transversely extending groove in which the lower bar of said loop is located, the said leg being so arranged that it will extend at an acute angle to the board when it is operative, and a plate secured to the leg and overlying the said bar of the loop to prevent its displace ment from the groove, the upper end of the said plate adjacent the intersection of the leg and the board being bent at right angles to the body of the plate and embedded in the said legs.
