SECURER FOR MACHINERY-LEGS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 670,763, dated March 26, 1901.
Application filed November 30, 1900. serial No. 38,206. (N model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it. known that I, MAGLOIRE BRODEUR, of Readville, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Securers for Machinery-Legs,of which the followingis-a speciiication.
This invention has for its object to provide a device for securing the legs of machines to the floor upon which the machine stands, the invention being particularly adapted for machines-such as looms, printing-presses, and the like-havin g unbalanced reciprocating parts the movement of which tends to cause a lateral jarring or displacement of the machine. In the case of looms it is common to fix the machine to the floor by means of bolts or screws engaging the base-flange of the leg and passing into the floor. These bolts frequently become loose from the lateral jarring of the machine. My invention provides a simple and effective means for securing the legs from lateral movement.
Of the drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the lower end of a machineleg. Fig. 2 representsa perspective view of a securer constructed in accordance with my invention assembled with said leg. Fig. 3 represents a sectional view through the leg, securer, and flooring. Fig. 4 represents a perspective view of the securer looking at the under side thereof. Figs. 5and 6 represent, respectively, top plan and reverse plan views of the securer.
The same reference characters indicate the same parts in all the figures.
Referring to the drawings, a is a machineleg having a web 1, two vertical flanges 2 2 at right angles therewith, and a base-flan ge 3, adapted to rest upon the floor. In looms and various other machinery the leg 0. is affixed to the floor by means of bolts passing through holes 11 11 in the base-flange 3.
0 represents a securer having a body portion 4 and projections 5 5 on the ends thereof, the lower surface of said body portions and projections being adapted to bear upon the floor b, Fig. 3, and the projections 5 5 being adapted to confine the leg a between them,the inner faces of the projections abutting against the outer faces of the side flanges 2 2. Projecting from the lower face of the securer are a series of studs 6 6, preferably cast integrally with the body portion and projections of the securer and adapted to enter holes bored for their reception in the floor b, the studs being forced tightly intfihe heles. The body portion 4: terminates in a shoulder 10, which abuts against the front edge of the base-flange 3 on the leg a, and hence it will be observed that the leg is confined laterally in three directions. In order to prevent whatever tendency there may be to vertical displacement of the leg a, I also provide an ear or flange 7, located above the lower surface of the securer and adapted to overlie the base-flange 3, said ear being separated from the projections 5 5 by recesses 8 8, which receive the side flanges 2 2. The securer may be bolted to the floor by means of screws or bolts passing through holes 9 9, formed in it. These screws or bolts will serve to hold the securer down to the floor, while all tendency to lateral movement of the securer is effectually prevented by the studs 6 6.
I claim A securer for machine-legs, having a body portion, projections on the ends thereof, the lower surface of said body portion and projections being adapted to bear on the floor, a series of studs projecting from said lower surface and adapted to enter holes bored for their receptionan the floor, and an ear located above said lower surface and adapted to overlie the base-flange of a leg, said ear being separated from the projections by recesses adapted to receive the vertical side flanges of the leg.
