To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDINAND Lnnwlo CLAREN, a subject of the German Emperor, and residing at Liibeck, in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Divers Dress Consisting of a Shirt or Jacket and Separate Trousers, of which the following is a specification.
In diving apparatus it is of great importance that the divers dress can be put on as quickly and conveniently as possible and for this reason it is advisable to construct the dress of an independent jacket and separate trousers. However it has been found diflicult to connect these two parts perfectly airand water-tight.
According to the present invention the two parts of the dress are connected by the aid of a stifl annular belt against which the overlapping edges or rims of the two parts of the dress are closely pressed. To enable the belt to be used for dilferent stout or thick persons it is of advantage to make belt variable in diameter.
Figure 1 of the drawing shows a divers dress constructed according to the present invention. Fig. 2 shows the way of connecting the jacket with the trousers and Figs. 3 and 4 show a way of making the belt adjustable.
The jacket 0 and the trousers b are preferably provided with a strong and elastic rim or edge a and d, res ectively. The elasticity of these rims and t e dimensions can be so chosen, that the rims themselves snugly fit on the stifl? belt 0 perfectly tight. It is how ever of advantage to make use of a special preferably pliable belt 7 surrounding the edges of the garment to prevent the jacket or the trousers from slipping off from the still belt when the diver moves about. Buckle-straps 9 may be used to assist the belt f, or should it be so desired, be used instead of the belt 7. Moreover it is of advantage to make the still belt e of corrugated material for instance of corrugated sheet metal or provide the same with longitudinal grooves, whereby the rims of the parts of the garment will have a better hold,
so that on the movements of the diver these parts will not slip 0d so easy. The corrugafpd shape will also render the belt more sti a In making an airand water-tight joint between the jacket and the trousers as explained above no pressure will be felt by the diver himself. The diver is in a position to convenientlyand without loss of time put on the dress, more particularly when so called free portable diving apparatus are use For different sized persons it is of advantage to make the belt variable in diameter.
A manner of making the belt adjustable is shown in Figs. 3- and 4. Here the belt is 5 divided and the two ends are made to overlap. One end is provided with hooks h which fit in openings '5 of which a suitable number is provided for in the other end of the belt. The hooks must be so directed, 7 that'it will be impossible to slip out 'fiom the openings when a longitudinal pull is exerted on the belt.
I claim:
In a divers dress, an adjustable metal belt having overlapping ends, one of said ends being provided with a series of holes spaced along the belt to receive hooks formed on the otherend and adapted to hold said ends together, trousers overlapping said belt, a jacket overlapping the edge of the trousers and belt, a flexible belt outside the jacket to bind the latter onto the trousers and metal belt, and supplemental buckles and straps adapted to connect the 8 jacket and trousers independently of the flexible belt.
