V. F. REVOR; SKIRT HOLDER. (Application filed Aug. 29, 1901.
(No Model.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VALLERI F. REVOR, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
SKlRT-HOLDER..
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters ma No. 698,056, dated April 22, 1902.
7 Application filed August'29, 1901. Serial No. 73,638. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, VALLERI F. REvoR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mine neapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and .useful Improvements in Skirt-Holders; and
I- do hereby declare the following'to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My present invention has for its object to provide a simple and eflioient device for holding'the skirt free from the ground without the use of the hands; and to this end it consists of the novel devicesand combinations of devices hereinafter described, and defined in the claim.
The invention is illustrated in the accom- The numeral 2 indicates a flexible cord or band having at one end a snap-hook 3 and at its other end a ring 4. a
The numeral 5 indicates a V-shaped springclamp provided at its free ends with cooperating clamping-heads 6. As shown and preferred, the inner faces of the clamping-heads 6 are provided with soft facing or pads 7, of Velvet or similar soft material, which will prevent tearing of that portion of the dress which is clamped between the same. A sliding clamping-link 8 works on the prongs of the spring-clamp 5. The prongs of the said clamp 5 spring apart under their own spring tension, and the clamping-heads 6 are forced and held onto the interposed portion 'of the skirt by sliding said link 8 toward the said heads 6. A ring 9 is secured to the crotch of the clamp 5 and said ringis connected to the ring 4 by one or morechains 10;
The device is applied in working position, as shown in Fig. 1, by passing the cord or band 2 around the waist, hooking the springhook 3 to the ring 4, preferably, or to the ring 9, if desired, and then securing the trainportion of the skirt between the clamping-heads 6 in a manner already indicated.
The cord or band 2 may of course be of any desired length; but it is usually made approximately one yard in length, so that it will loosely encircle the waist. It will also be understood that the end of the cord or band 2 may be secured to the clamp 5 in a great many difl:'erent ways. However, the rings 4: and 9 and the chain 10 give the device an ornamental appearance. The said cord or band ,2 may of course be made of any suitable flexi ble material and may be either round or flat The cord 2 and spring snap-hook 3 are of such sizev that the latter may be snapped around the former. This enables the device to be used with thehook snapped around the cord 2 and the cord 2 drawn tight around the waist. a I l e The device is extremely simple, is of small cost," and is not only very convenient, but when properly designed is very ornamental. Its great advantage is that it properly holds the skirt and leaves both hands of the wearer free.
What I claim,*and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows: V A skirt-supporter comprising the flexible cord 2 provided at one end with the snaphook 3 of such size that it may be snapped around said cord 2, the ring 4 atthe other end of said cord 2 chainslO attached to said Witnesses:
