Abstract

283,005. Hipssich, K. Feb. 14, 1927. Divers' dress.-In a diving-dress for use under high pressure, the limbs and flexible parts of the body consist of successive interengaging rings a, Figs. 2, 3, 4, of angular cross section with spherical contacting-surfaces; distance pieces b of approximately rhomboidal shape at opposite sides of the rings lie between the internal annular flanges a<2> of the rings. The flanges and the distance pieces are pieced at right-angles to their contacting-sufaces, and a flexible member such as a wire rope c passed therethrough. The distance piece takes the axial pressure, while the flexible member resists tension. The distance pieces are of the shape shown in Fig. 6, the lower obtuse-angled edge being cut off to form a flat base. This prevents shortening of the limb member when it is twisted, as shown in the figure. The rings forming the flexible parts of the dress are completely enclosed in a sleeve d, Fig. 2, of rubber, leather or the like, attached at each end to rigid parts E, F of the dress, and in an outer covering e of leather similarly attached. Layers of grease f are provided between the coverings d and e and the rings a.
