ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1915.
T 0 all 1.0710111 it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE CHASE ED- unxnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, county of Fairlield, State of Connecticut, have invented an Improvement in Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide an advertising device comprising a sheet, card or folder and a series of interchangeable parts, which will give any predetermined information that may be desired, as for example the catalogue number, list price, &c.,' regarding any combination of members that is likely to be called for by the trade.
With this and other objects in view I have devised the novel interchangeableadvertising device which I will now describe, referring to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and using reference characters to indicate the several parts.
Figure 1 is a View of my novel advertising device in the form of a two-leaf folder partly broken away to show the backing; Figs. 2 and 3- are views of reverse sides of one of the interchangeable parts detached, and Fig. l is a view on an enlarged scale illustrating the operation of the device.
10 denotes a main sheet, card or folder which may be made of any suitable material, as metal, celluloid or paper and is provided with a plurality of slits l1 and with cooperating slots 12. The slots are placed at right angles to the. slits. In the present in.- stance the slits are shown as placed transversely of the main sheet and theslots as placed in vertical alinement a short distance below the cooperating slits. Contiguous to each slit, in the present instance immediately below it, I place a representation, indicated by 13, of a member of a combination. as for example arepresentation of a cap of an electric socket. Contiguous to the slots and on opposite sides thereof, 1 place inclicating symbols 14; arranged in vertical columns, the symbols inthe columns being accurately placed to give such predetermined information as may be required regarding any combination of members, as for example the catalogue number of regular goods, the catalogue number of electrolier goods, the number in a standard package '18 of a member of a combination and the tab being provided with a transverse inclicating mark 19 which, when the tab is inserted in one of the slits wi h athe lower end of the card registering withv e slit, will be in horizontal alinement with certain of the indicating symbols l i, as clearly shown in Fig. 4. The reverse side of the tab is pro vided with a differently placed indicating,
mark and the reverse side of the card is provided with a representation of another member of a combination.
For convenience in operation. so that it is notnecessary to remove an interchangeable part to see what member is represented on the opposite side thereof, I place above the representation 18 of a member a reduced representation 20 of the combination member on the opposite side thereof, for exanr ple in Fig. 2 the combination member 18 is an ordinary pull socket and above that is placed a reduced representation of a ceiling pull. Upon the reverse side (see Fig. 3) the combination member is a ceiling pull and above it is placed a reduced representation of an ordinary pull socket. The same principle is carried out in Fig. 4k, in which upon the exposed side of the card of theinterchangeable part, the combination member is a pendent and on the reverse side a key socket.
The operation is as follows: Suppose for example that information is desired regarding the combination of a pendent with the special combination member 13, represented in the column at the right in Fig. 4. The required interchangeable part 15 is selected, the side bearing the representation of a pendent placed outward and the tab of said interchangeable part is then inserted in the slit corresponding with the required combination member 18, as inFig. 4:, the lower end of the card of the interchangeable part being in alinement with the slit and the upper end of the tab substantially filling the slit so that the card is firmly supported.
- The indicating mark 19 on the tab will now be exposed in the slot in alinement with the indicating symbols 14 giving the desired information. In the present instance it is an electrolier fixture, the catalogue number of the combination is 607, the number in a standard package is 50, and the list price is comprising a main sheet having transverse slits and vertical slots, representations of combination members contiguous to the slits, and indicating symbols in horizontal alinement contiguous tothe slots, and interchangeable p' ,ts each comprising a card bearingthe representation of a combination member and. av tab adapted to be passed into one of the slits and provided with an indi- 'cating mark visible through the corresponding slot and adapted to aline with the indicating symbols relating to the combination of members.
2. A device of the character described comprising a main-sheet having transverse slits and'below said slits vertical slots, representations of combination members below the slits and indicating symbols contiguous to the slots, and reversible interchangeable "parts each comprising a card bearing on each side the representation of a combination member and a tab adapted to be passed into one of the slits and provided on each side with an indicating mark adapted to be seen through the slot and to aline with the indicating symbols relating to the combination of members.
A device of the character described comprising a main sheet having transverse slitsin vertical almement and allned vertical slots cooperating therewith, representations of combination members contiguous to the slits and indicating symbols contiguous to the slots and relating to the combination of members, and interchangeable parts each comprising a card bearing the representation of acombination member and a tapering tab adapted to enter any of the slits and provided with an indicating mark adapted to cooperate with the symbols.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for 5. A device of the character described comprising a main sheet having slits and slots at right angles to the slits, representations of combination members contiguous to the slits, and indicating symbols contiguous to the slots, interchangeable parts each comprising a card bearing the representation of a combination'member, and a tab adapted to enter any of the slits and provided with an indicating mark adapted to cooperate with the symbols and a backing secured to the main card at the edges thereof, and covering the tabs when inserted in the slits.
6. A device of the character described comprising a main sheet having slits and slots'at right angles to the slits, representations of combination members contiguous to the slits and indicating symbols contiguous with the slots and relating to the combination of members, and reversible interchangeable parts each comprising a card bearing on each side the representation of a combination member and a reducedrepresentation. of the member on the opposite side and a tab adapted to enter any of the slits and proadapted to cooperate with the symbols.
7. A device of the character described comprising a main sheet having transverse slits and vertical slots, representations of combination members contiguous to the slits and indicating symbol in horizontal alinement contiguous to the slots, interchangeable parts each comprising a card bearing on opposite sides representations of combination members and a'tab adapted to be passed into any of the slits and provided on opposite sides with an indicating mark adapted to be seen through the slots and cooperating with the symbols and a backing secured. to the main card at the edges and co ering the tabs when inserted.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
