SLIDING NAME-REGISTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. s, 1921.
Application led January 28, 1920. Serial No. 354,579.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, LEFFERD M.- A. I-IAUGHWOUT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Ponce, county of Ponce, Porto Rico, have invented a new and Improved Sliding Name-Register, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to registers, and has reference more particularly to a sliding name register which indicates the presence A still further object of this invention to provide a sliding name register in which the names of all persons present will be con tained in one column, and the names of those absent will be contained in another column, so that the two groups can be distinguished at a glance.
Reference is to be had to the accomanying drawing forming a part of this specification in which it is understood that the dra-wing is merely illustrative of two examples of the invention, and in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of one form of my invention showing a plurality of sliding name plates.
Fig. 2 is a second form of my invention in in which one sliding name plate is shown.
Fig. 3 is a section through Fig. 2 on the line 3 3.
Fig. 4 is a section through Fig. 2 on the line L1-4l.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the catch plates removed from the holder.
Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of one end of the name plate.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 10 indicates a plate of any suitable material which is provided with a plurality of offset flanges 11, and a plurality of offset fingers 12 which are adapted to slidably support a name plate 13 between one of said flanges, and a pair of said 1ingers (see Fig. 1). These flanges and fingers may be stamped directly from the plate 10 so as to provide a cheap construction. The ends of the name plate 13 are bent back on said plate to form lips 14, which are adapted to engage a card 15 bearing a persons name or any other desired inscription and are also adapted to normally engage the finger 12 and prevent said name plate 13 from being completely withdrawn. One end of the name plate 13 is cut away to make a recess 13a which has the shape of the finger l2 so that when it is desired to remove the plate 13 to change the name, the finger 14.- may be raised slightly with any sharp pointed instrument so that the finger 14 may be moved past the finger 12 thus allowing the plate 13 to be removed. The card 15 may be covered by a sheet of some transparent material such as celluloid if so desired.
When the name plate 13 is translated to a position farthest to the right as shown in Fig. l, the word Out inscribed on the plate 10, is covered by said name plate, and the word In inscribed at the left is uncovered. When the name plate 13 is translated to a position farthest to the left, the aforementioned conditions are reversed', and a person is shown to be absent. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the plate 10a is secured to anysuitable support 16 by means of fasteners such as tacks or screws 17. This plate 10a carries flanges 11a similar to flanges ll which engage the name plate 13. This sliding name register is specially advantageous for use in schools, churches, offices, hotels, manufacturing concerns, etc., where a person may slide his name plate to the proper position as he enters or leaves the building. Thus at a glance a person can determine which of the persons are present and which are absent, as the names of two groups of people occur in separate columns on the register.
I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the mechanical details herein illustrated, since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters adapted to normally enage said anges and Patent: prevent the Withdrawa of said name plate,
A sliding name register comprising a and a recess formed near the end of each 10 plate, a plurality of'ol'set flanges formed on name plate adapted to permit the removal 5 said plate, one or more name plates slidably of said name plate from said plate when secured to said plate by said anges, a lip said name plate is flexed. formed 0n each end 0f Said name plate LEFFERD MERLE ALEXANDER HAUGHWOUT.
