LAMP-FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
llatented July 6, 1%15.
Application filed June 17, 1914. Serial No. 845,533.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES H. Hor- RICHTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp- Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in lamp fixtures, the primary object being to provide a generally improved lamp fixture embodying an improved arm carrying body having its parts so arranged that it may be readily shifted or transformed for use as a two, three or four armed fixture body the latter being also adapted for use either as a ceiling plate or as a chandelier or electrolier fixture body.
A still further object is the provision of an improved lamp pendant for use in connection with such fixtures said pendant em bodying a lamp socket adapted to receive and support the lamp bulb and a lamp shade support surrounding and covering the lamp socket and adapted to receive and support the lamp shade.
With the above mentioned, and other ends in View, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in some of its embodiments in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1, is a side elevation of a fixture constructed in accordance with my invention, a portion of one of the lamp shade supports being broken away for the purpose of clearer illustration of the parts. Fig. 2, a horizontal sectional view of the fixture body illustrating the arrangement over the openings in the overlapping portions of the 2-part body and showing the same shifted for use as a two-arm fixture. Fig. 8, a similar view of the same shifted for use as a three-arm fixture. Fig. 4, a similar view showing the same shifted for use as a four-arm fixture as shown in the side elevation in Fig. 1. Fig. 5, a side elevation of the improved pendant in use as a single pendant certain parts of the shade holder being broken away for the purpose of clearer illustration of the parts. Fig. 6, a similar view of a square based design of pendant.
Similar numerals of reference designate like parts throughout all the' figures of the drawings.
The improved fixture body, in the present instance, comprises two parts consisting of upper and lower members 1, and 2, respectively, of any suitable and convenient design, provided with overlapping rim portions i and 9, respectively, the latter being provided with suitable openings 3, so arranged and spaced from each other and relative to the openings in the rim portions 1, and 2, that upon the proper shifting or relative circumferential movei'nents of the members 1, and 2, the openings 3, may be adapted to register with each other to form communicating openings 3, for theformation of a two, three, or four armed fixture as illustrated in Figs. 2, 3 and 4, respectively, of the drawings. If the improved fixture body is to be used. for gas the openings 3, may communicate with suitable gas conduits, or if to be used as an electrolier body as shown in the drawings, may communicate with suitable electric wires or conduits and be provided with suitably attached fixture arms a, for supporting the lamp in any suitable and convenient position. In the present instance I have shown the arms 4, supporting the pendants of the improved construction now to be described.
The improved pendant comprises an elongated tubular member 5, terminating in its lower portion in a bell-shaped portion 5, which latter is connected to a second bellshaped or flaring member 6, said member 6, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawings being reversed and forming a lamp shade support as shown most clearly in Figs. 1 and 5 of the drawings. The lamp shade support or socket cover 6, is adapted to support a suitable shade 7, which latter may be supported by means of thumb screws 7.
The improved pendant is provided with a lamp socket 8, adapted to receive and support the lamp bulb, said socket 8, being independently supported within the lamp shadesupport 6, by means of a tubular or pipe mem her 9, arranged within the elongated portion 5, of the pendant and threaded into a rotatably mounted loop eye 10, by means of which the pendant may be suspended from a second threaded loop eye 11. The parts 11, may be suitably secured to the ends of the arms 4, as shown in Fig. 1, or if it is desired to use the improved pendant as a single lamp fixture the part 11, may be secured to Copies of this patent may be obtained for a single ceiling plate 12, as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings. The tubular member 9, is adapted to contain the conduit wire 18, leading to the bulb carried within the socket 8. I i
The improved pendant may be of square or angular shape as shown in Fig. 6 and the design may be varied for ornamental purposes as desired. a
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.
Having thus describedsome of the embodiments of my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
1. In a lamp fixture, a two-part hollow fixture body comprising upper and lower members terminating in overlapping rim portions having circumferentially spaced -openings adapted upon the relative circumferential movements of said rim portions to provide two or more arm communicatlng openings.
2. In a lamp fixture, a two-part hollow disk shaped fixture body comprising two concave-convex shaped members having perforated circumferentially movable overlapping rim portions adapted upon the relative movements of the latter to form a plurality of equally spaced arm, communicating openings.
3. In a lamp fixture, a fixture body comprising upper and lower dished members terminating in offset overlapping rim portions the latter being provided with openings adapted to register with each other upon the relative movements of said rim portions whereby to provide a variable number of arm communicating openings.
4. In a lamp fixture, a fixture body comprising conoavo-convex shaped members terminating in circumferentially movable overlapping rim portions having openings adapted to register with each other whereby to form a plurality of regularly spaced arm communicating openings and adapted upon the relative shifting of said members to vary the number of such arm communicating openings.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES H. HOFRICHTER.
