APPLICATION FILED MAY 2, 1914.

WILLIS WEAVER, 0F NEAR SEALY, TEXAS.
SEED-CORN HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented'July 6, 1915.
Application filed May 2, 1914. Serial No. 835,853.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, WILLIS WEAVER, a citizen of the United States, residing near Sealy, in Austin county, in the State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seed-Corn Hangers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
The device provided by this invention is particularly for holding ears of seed-corn during the period of drying.
The invention contemplates a series of hanger members separably linked together in any desired number, each member being adapted to support an ear, and the arrangement being such that the ear thereon is held in place by a part of a member next below it in the series which imposes its weight on the ear.
When read in connection with the description herein, the details of construction and arrangement of parts contemplated by the invention will be apparent from the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, wherein an embodiment of the invention is disclosed, for purposes of illustration.
While the embodiment of the invention disclosed now is considered a preferable one, it is to be understood that it is not the intention to be limited necessarily thereto in interpretation of the claims, as it is apparent that alterations within the limits of the claims can be made without departing from the nature and spirit of the invention.
Like reference-characters refer to corresponding parts in the views of the drawing, of which- Figure 1 is a front view; Fig. 2 is a side view; and Fig. 3 is a view of one of the hanger members.
Having more particular reference to the drawing, 4 designates a hanger member or link, a plurality of which are connected to form a depending hanger on which the ears are placed.
A hanger member comprises an intermediate shank portion 5, which normally has disposition longitudinal of the series, an upper clamping-arm 6 extending laterally from the upper part of the shank, and a supporting portion 7 extending laterally from the lower part of the shank and underneath, or substantially in the same direction as, the clamping-arm. At the free end of the clamping=arm there is an elongated eye 8 so formed that the eye of another similar member may be passed over it and onto the shank. Each hanger member preferably is formed of a single length of wire, which is bent midway of its ends to form the eye 8, and the strands of which then are twisted together and bent to form the clamping-arm and th shank. At the lower end of the shank, the strands then are spread oppositely as extensions 7 and then bent laterally therefrom as hook-arms 7 constituting the supporting portion of the member on which the ear or other article carried thereby rests.
When an ear is placed on the supporting portion of one member, the clamping-arm of the member next below it in the series will be pulled down against the ear by the weight imposed on the member and the ear thereby firmly clamped and held in place. A ring 9 is disposed in the eye of the upper member of the series for the purpose of preventing the eye of the member next below it from slipping oif when the devic is not in hanging position and to provide means for hanging the device on a nail, hook, or the like.
For the purpose of holding an ear on the lowermost member of the series, a springarm 10 extends from its shank, and this arm may be secured to the shank in any suitable manner, as by having it constitute a lower extending portion of a coil 11 on the shank.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An article-hanger comprising a series of hanger members some of which have each an intermediate shank portion normally having disposition approximately longitudinal of the series, a clamping portion extending at an inclination from the upper part of the shank ortion and having an eye capable of being passed onto the shank porti on of another member and of sliding movement thereon, and a supporting portion extending from the lower part of the shank and under the clamping portion.
2. A hanger member having an intermediate shank portion, a clamping portion extending at an inclination from the upper part of the shank portion and having means for slidable connection with the shank portion of another such member, and a supporting portion extending from the lower part of the shank portion and at substan= tially the Same side thereof as the clamping tending from the shank above the supportportion. ing portion.
3. A hanger member -comprising -a shank Intestimony Whereof, I affix my signaportion having thereon means for slidable ture in the presence of two witnesses.

shank portion, and a clamping-portion ,ex- 0. T. S UpERs.
