To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Jon A. STUBKJARE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Yellowstone, State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pincers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to pincers and has for an object to provide a tool of this character in which the jaws will be so arranged as to be closed with minimum manual exertion, the jaws being actuated by novel handle levers that are pivotally connected together and receive both jaws therebetween, both jaws being pivoted at the ends to said handle levers in rear of the pivot of the levers whereby maximum leverage is exerted upon the jaws upon manipulation of the handle lever.
A further object of the invention is to provide novel handle levers each of which may be formed of a single blank of sheet metal, the handle levers having each a fork and the branches of these forks being pivotally connected together, the jaws having their shanks passing into the space between the branches of both handle levers whereby the jaws are partially housed by the handle lever branches against injury.
With the above objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be made in the minor details of construction within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating this invention :Figure 1 is a front elevation of the tool closed. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the tool open. Fig. 3 is an edge elevation of the tool. Fig. i is a cross sectional view on the line l4: Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view on the line 55 Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a plan view of the blank from which. each handle lever is formed.
Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts, the tool is shown to comprise aws 10 and 11 which cross each other at their pivotal connection 12 and are extended from the pivot to form levers l3 and 14: which are curved gently to cross each other while bear- Specification of Letters Patent.

ing snugly one upon the other as shown, the levers terminating respectively in orificed ends 15 which are reinforced on the inner sides by bosses 16. i
The handle levers l7 and 18 are each formed preferably of a single blank of sheet metal as shown at 19 in Fig. 6, the blank being oblong at one end as shown at 20 and being expanded at the opposite end as shown at 21, said expanded portion terminating in a fork, the branches 22 of which are provided in the ends with hinge eyes 23 that are curved outwardly as shown. The oblong portion 20 of the blank is rolled upon itself to form a tubular grip as shown in the cross sectional view Fig. 5, the branches 22 and expanded portion 21 during such bending being brought into parallelism with each other with a resultant space therebetween sufficient to receive both of the jaw levers 13 and 14.
The jaw levers are pivotally connected to the handle levers by means of pivot pins 24 and 25 passed through the oriiiced ends of the respective levers and through suitable openings in the handle levers at the bases ofthe branches thereof. The corresponding branches of the handle levers are pivotally connected together outside of the jaw levers by means of pivot pins 26 and 27. These pivot pins are disposed in line with the pivot pin 12 of the jaws and with the working ends of the jaws when the latter are closed.
It will be seen that both of the jaw levers are housed within the spaces between the branches of the handle lever and are thus protected from injury, while at the same time the jaw levers bear one upon the other and thus are compactly disposed so that the tool is of minimum thickness and therefore is not bulky or cumbersome to manipulate. Furthermore, the bosses 16 of the jaw levers contact with the inner faces of the branches of the respective handle levers whereby the branches are reinforced against being crushed inwardly at their bases, while by virtue of the branches bearing upon the outer sides of the jaw levers at the pivots, the branches will also be prevented from being crushed inwardly at their free ends, and thus distortion of the handle levers prevented although the same are formed of extremely light material.
From the above description it will be seen that I have provided an extremely light, strong and powerful tool which is formed of a few simple and inexpensive parts that will not easily get out of order.
What is claimed, is
1. A tool comprising crossed jaws pivoted at their crossing and extended beyond their crossing to form levers, said levers being curved outwardly terminally and provided with hinge eyes reinforced by bosses on the inner sides, a pair of handle levers each provided with a fork receiving therebetween one of said jaw levers, with the eye and boss thereof bearing on the inner faces of the forkbranches, the branches of both handle levers being disposed outside of said jaw levers, pivot pins connecting together the branches of each handle lever on the same side of said jaw levers, and pivot pins passed through the bases of the branches of each handle lever and through the eye and reinforcing boss of the related jaw lever.
