SKIRT HANGER.
APPLICATION FILED Aue.23. 1913.
Patented June 8, 1915.
THE NORRIS PETERS C0., PHOTO-LITHO.. WASHINGTON, D. C.
OFFICE.
LUCY LYNCH, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SKIRT-HANGER.
Application filed August 23, 1913.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I,'LUOY LYNCH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirt-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in skirt hangers, and has for its object the provision of a simple and effective construction of this character which will support a skirt in the natural manner without creasing the same, and which may also be folded or collapsed into compact form.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter de scribed and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and which is a vertical section of a skirt hanger embodying my invention, and shown in position of use.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises an upper and a lower stretching and supporting ring adapted to fit within the skirt and serve to hold the same in natural position as in dicated. Each of the rings 1 and 2 are inwardly offset at their upper portions 3 and are provided with inwardly extending securing flanges 4: as shown. Each of the rings 1 and 2 thus consists of two rings formed integrally with each other the upper ring being inwardly offset with respect to the lower and provided at its upper edge with an inwardly extending flange. Main supporting chains 5 are secured to flanges 4 at intervals and are extended upwardly and secured at their upper ends to a supporting ring 6. Supplemental supporting chains 5' are secured to flanges a between the main supporting chains 5, as shown. By this ar- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 8, 1915.
Serial No. 786,250.
rangement it will be observed that the rings 1 and 2 will be held in a natural position to present broad bearing surfaces for the skirt and at the same time the supporting chains will be positioned out of contact with the skirt thus preventing creasing of said skirt by said chains. A central supporting chain 7 is secured at its upper end to ring 6 and hangs between chains 5, the lower end of chain 7 being provided with a supporting hook and for the reception of garments. Ring 6 is also provided with side hooks 9 for the reception of minor garments.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but
desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A skirt hanger comprising two supporting rings, the upper portion of each ring being inwardly offset and provided with an inwardly extending flange; main supporting chains secured to the flange of one ring and extended upwardly therefrom and connected to the flange of the other ring; and supplemental supporting chains secured to the flanges of both rings between said main chains and extended above the upper ring.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LUCY LYNCH.
