.ffm v JIM/a 207' UNITED aSTATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM YOUNG, or nAsToN, ISENNsYLvANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOT-AIR REGISTERS.
Speciiieation forming part of Letters Patent No. 114,247, dated April 25, 1871.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM YOUNG, of Easton, in the county of Northampton and State oi' Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hot-Air Registers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this speeiiication.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a hot-air register, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In Order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appcrtans to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the register thrown open, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same. f
A represents a cast-iron frame, of suitable dimensions, to be built into the 'wall or chi1nney where the register is int-ended to be. This frame is provided with suitable lugs or projections for the insertion of screws a a, with which the rim B is secured. rEhe frame A supports the masonry, while the rim B hides said frame and the joint between the frame and the masonry.
The frame, as above mentioned, is built into the wall; but the rim is not attached until the wall is entirely finished.
The rim B is provided on one side with hinges for attaching the register-face C, which l is made of the usual open-work for the pas sage of the heated air. 0n the inner side of the face G are pivoted the vertical registervalves D D, the lower journals or pivots of which have their bearings in a sliding bar, b, said bar being operated from the front to open or close the valves at will.
With this arrangement anybody can, when the building is finished, attach the register by the simple means of a screw-driver to fasten it to the frame A.
The face G being hinged, it can be Opened witnesses.
