Application filed August 2, 1912, Serial No. 712,991. 'Renewed ctober 21, 1914. Serial No. 867,900.
T0 all w/Lomt may concern:
Be it known that l, HORACE E STEVENS, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Jacob, in the county of Madison, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lampdurners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap aertains to make and use the same.
rihe present invention is directed to improvements in lamp burners, and has for itsobject to provide a new and novel device for holding the chimney upon the burner.
A further object of the invention is to so construct a device of this character that the chimney may be easily and quickly attached or removed from the burner.
l.Vith these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a side elevation of the burner and a portion of the chimney showing the manner in which the same is secured to the burner, the chimney being partly in section. Fig. 2 is a sectional fiew on line 2 2 of F ig. 1.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates burner, said burner being provided with an annular flange 2, said flange being provided with a groove 3, the purpose of which will appear later.
The device for holding the chimney i in place upon the burner consists of a single length of resilient wire, the same being so bent as to provide a plurality of pairs of vertical arms 5, the same being arranged in spaced parallel relation. rlhe lower ends of the arms 5 are connected by horizontally disposed arms 6, which are slightly curved so as to conform to the curvature of the flange The upper ends of the arms 5 terminate in outwardly inclined portions 7, the upper ends of which are connected by outwardly curved bars 8 which engage the interior curved surface of the chimney et. The hori- Zontal arms 6 rest in the groove 3 in which they are secured, thus rigidly connecting the holder to the burner. The flange 2 is formed at diametrically opposite points with slots 9 which are adapted to be engaged by the spring tongues 10 formed upon the lower edge of the flame deflecting cone 11 thus securely holding the same in place.
From this construction it will be seen that the chimney t is placed upon the burner so that the curved bars 8 engage the inner surface thereof, and as the arms 5 are of a resilient nature, said bars will firmly bear against the chimney and hold the same upon the burner and against accidental displacement.
What is claimed is In a chimney holder, the combination of a burner having an annular flange formed thereon, a groove formed in said flange, a holder consisting of a single length of resilient wire and comprising a plurality of pairs of vertical arms arranged in parallel spaced relation, the lower ends of said arms being connected by horizontally disposed arms, which are secured in the groove, said vertical arms having their upper ends terminating in outwardly inclined portions, said portions being connected at their upper ends by bars adapted to yieldably engage the interior surface of a lamp chimney when the same is placed upon a burner.
In testimony whereof, I afliX my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
HORACE F. STEVENS.
