DUST-CLOTH HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM T. Moss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Dust-Cloth Holder, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved form of dust cloth holder and more particularly to a dust cloth holder which is readily attachable to the end of a broom handle.

..in object of the present invention is to provide a dust cloth holder which may be easily and readily secured to a wooden handle such as is secured to a broom.

A further object is to provide a dust cloth holder formed of resilient wire which may be readily secured to a broom handle and which is provided with. resilient arms adapted to engage a dust cloth and to hold the same rigidly thereto.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings accompanying this specification and forming a part thereof the preferable form of my invention is illus trated, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved dust cloth holder. Fig. 2 is a similar view with a dust cloth or equivalent thereof rigidly secured thereto. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view taken on the line AA of Fig. 1. Fig. 4: is a cross sectional view taken on the line BB of Fig. 2 and with the cloth omitted.

Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 is the body portion of the holder and is formed of a plurality of strands of resilient wire twisted together with the outer free portions thereof bent outwardly to form the resilient arms 2 the extreme ends of which are bent inwardly as at 3, to form gripping jaws. sharply or abruptly outwardly as at 4 and then straight as at 5 so as to form a cylindrical attaching member adapted to engage the end 6 of a broom or similar device.

The body portion of the holder is preferably formed of four distinct strands of wire with the result that there will be four gripping arms 2 and four of the parallel portions 5 of the attaching cylindrical portion. A coil of wire 7 is rigidly secured to one end of the body portion 1 and prevents the strands from becoming untwisted at this point. A somewhat similar coil 8 is positioned at the other extremity of the body portion 1 with one free end of the said 0011 wound. about the spaced fingers 5 as illustrated at 9 and is adapted to increase the strength of the fingers and to insure that the broom handle attaching portion of the fastener will rigidly and firmly grip the handle 6. The extreme end of the portion 9 is bent upon one of the ends of the fingers 5 as illustrated 10.

In order to provide means whereby the arms 2 may be forcibly held together so as to engage a cloth or similar article 11, a slide or collar 12 is provided and comprises a coil of wire the extreme ends 13 of which eX- tend inwardly between the rms 2 and contact with the opposite side of the coil 12 whereby it will be practically impossible for the sliding collar 12 to become accidentally detached from the arms 2. The diameter of the collar 12 is of such a size that when the same approaches the extreme ends of the arms 2 the jaws will be brought together and will grip a cloth, sponge or simi-- lar article 11 positioned therebetween. It is also to be noted that when the collar 12 ap proaches the gripping jaws 3 they will be brought together and will contact with the diametrical portions 13 and prevent the collar from becoming detached from the holder;

From the foregoing it will be apparent that the resilient fingers 5 in conjunction with the coil 9 wound therearound are adapted to rigidly and at the same time detachably engage a broom handle or similar article and to hold the dust cloth rigidly thereto. The resilient arms 2 with the gripping jaws 3 at the extreme ends thereof are adapted to engage a cloth or similar article and to rigidly hold the same to the device by sliding the collar 12 along the arms 2 toward the outer ends thereof which will of necessity force the said arms together and hold them in this position. The extreme ends of the collar 12 by being-disposed along diametric lines prevent the collar from overriding the ends of the arms 2. The portion 1 is so constituted that it may be used as a handle When the device is not used in connection With the upper-end of the handle of a broom or similar object. 7 7

It is considered that the foregoing,taken in connection With the accompanying drawings, is such a disclosure-of my invention as Will result in a ready appreciation of its benefit and advantages, it only being necessary to further remark possibly, that it is characterized for its extreme simplicity, therefore is inexpensive to manufacture, and is efi'ective for the purpose intended.

What I claim is 7 A holder having a plurality of diverging resilient arm's provided, With gripping means at their free ends, and a ring surrounding the said arms and comprising a Wire coil 11 ving its terminal portions extended diametrically through the axis thereof and crossed, the said crossed terminal portions engaging a pair of the said arms therebetween.
