MUSIC-CLAMP.
Application filed November 25, 1913.
T 0 all whom it may concern I Be it known that we, WILLIAM W. MALONE and EDWARD V. MALONE, citizens of the United States, residing at Piqua, in the county of Miami, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music-Clamps; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable Vothers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
rlhis invention relates to new and useful improvements in clamps for holding sheets of paper and is especially adapted for clamps for holding sheets of music with relation to a music leaf turner.
This present application was described and shown in our original application for patent for music leaf turners, led Aug. 12, 1918, Serial Number 784,426, reference to which is herein made for a full description of the apparatus to which the invention most specifically relates.
The object of the present invention resides in the provision of means whereby a iiexible sheet of material may be quickly associated with and efficiently held by the actuating arm of a leaf turner.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of such a device which comprises a maximum simplicity so that it may` be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel combination, formation and .arrangement of parts to be more fully hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings and particularly pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings wherein similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the sheet clamp. with the parts thereof in clamping relation. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the body member of the device. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the clamping strip of the device, Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line H of Fig. 1, Fig. 5 is an elevational view of the rear portion of the sheet clamping member, and Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line 6 6 of Fig. 5.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, the body portion Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 4, 1915.
serial No. 803,069.
of the clamp comprises a normally vertically disposed metal strip 5 and having formed adjacent its lower end a horizontally extending strip 6 which has its lower edge bent outwardly to form a ledge 7 for supporting the sheet of music. For engagement with the spindle 8 of the music leaf turner, the lower end of the strip 5 has formed on one edge the vertically alined hinged eyes 9 and 10.
For holding a sheet of music on the face of the strip 5, said strip is provided on one edge below the horizontal strip 6 with a lip bent back upon the strip 5 to form therewith a socket 11. A movable clamp strip 12 is provided and has its lower end 13 reduced to seat in the said socket. rlhe upper end of the strip is formed with a downwardly opening hooked member 14, the bight portion of which fits in a recess 15 formed in the upper end of the upright strip 5. Projecting laterally from one edge of the holding strip 12 is a finger 16 which engages the sheet of music to hold it against buckling.
Associated with the horizontal strip 6 of the clamp is a spring clamping member including a grip 16 secured to the rear face of the intermediate portion of the strip and carrying hinge ears 17 between which are pivoted hinge ears 1S of a grip 19 which carries at its upper end a transverse clamping head 20 which is positioned to extend along and clamp against the horizontal strip, there being a helical spring 21 positioned on the pivot pin 22 which is passed through the hinge ears 17 and 18 said spring serving to hold the clamping head in operative engagement.
1n operation, the holding strip of the clamp is rst removed and the sheet of music placed upon the ledge 7 of the horizontal strip, being clamped between the horizontal strip and the clamping head 20. The holding strip 12 is then inserted downwardly into its socket with its hook portion 14 entering the recess 15 in the upright strip 5 whereupon the clamped strip is anchored to the upright strip and confines the inner end of the sheet against the upright strip.
What is claimed is:
1. A sheet clamp comprising a strip, a second strip extending laterally therefrom, means carried by the second strip for clamping the sheet thereto and a holding strip detachably associated with the rst strip for holding an edge of the sheet thereagainst.
2. A music leaf clamp including an upright strip having a recess in its upper end, a horizontally extending strip carried by said upright strip, sheet securing means on the last-named strip, a holding strip extending longitudinally of said upright strip and terminating at the upper end in a hook fitting in a recess in the upper edge of said upright strip, and the lower end of said upright strip being formed With a socket for strip.
In testimony whereof, We aix our signatures, 1n the presence of tWo Witnesses.
WILLIAM W. MALONE. EDWARD V. MALONE.
