Application filed May 2, 191%.
i State ot Missouri. have invented certain new and us l improvements in Union baits; and ierehv declare the Following to he a f l clear, and exact descriptioi'i of the invent such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates tocomhination or union-suits and has particular reference to that. type of EH01 garments as relate to the n'ianulacture oi the upper or outer shirt from the same piece oi. goods used in the making of the under garments or drawers.
As a particular object. this invention contemplates the provision of a ncglige shirt manufactured in one continuous piece, with the tinder garments or drawers and which is provided with means for forming a reli ably closed crotch.
A. still. further object is to provife a union-suit or combination garment of the type described which shall disclose inea coacting with an opening made in the i port-ion of the under garment which shall provide a reliably closed crotch and sametime allow for an easy opening of the same when such is desired.
The above and additional obiects which may hereinafter be discerned in the following specification will accomplish such means as are illustrated in the accompanying draivings, described in the following speeiii .ation and then more particularly pointed out in the claims which are appended hereto and i orm a part oi this application.
lVith reference to tho drawings wherein l have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention as it is reduced to practice, and throughout the several views of which like characters of reference designate similar parts in Which- Figure 1 is a front elevational view of an approved form of my garment and, Fig. 2 is a rear elevational View disclosing the openin form in the rear of said garment and the means for normally holding the same closed.
Proceeding now to the description of the drawings it will be seen that the front portion 5 or" my garment consists of the two similar but oppositely disposed gores or side pieces 6 and 7, the latter of which over laps Specification of Letters Patent.
fierial No.
has means such as the huttons 8 by 1 is movahly connected thereto. The hzci. por .on oi my garment is composed breadth 9 and the leg pieces 10 and u'hich ed to thc breadth E by mea s of l The 4 alter-wise leg piece i secured to 3' portion 5 along the nl A s3 and the leg piece ll) similarh secured to the front gore 7 along the seams indicated by the numeral l-l. The outside seams l3 and ll are continued upwardly to the armholes l5 formed by suitable cut out portions in the front and hack of my garment and also serve as the connecting seams between th+ upper portion of the gores (i and T composing the front 5. with the hacl; hrcadth 9. The usual shoulder u; shown in the front and the back 9, above the arniholes l5 and the customary collar hand 17. is stitched in the usual position upon the upper part of my garment connected to the side gores (i and 7. The ustoniary sleeves 18. are adapted to the sides oi the armholes l5 and terminate in the ord nal cnil's it now to the more specific portion it will he seen that I have a reliably closed crotch which is v the tollowing means.
are not stitched to- .7 ihe leg pieces 10 a1 cl ll gether or secured aloi at the rear portion of the ment, but loosely overlap eacn other. The flap piece is stitched or suitahly secured to the leg piece 10. along" the seam ll and serves as a closing portion "for the opening thus created. As means for normally securing this flap portion 20 to the leg piece 11. provide the button of similarly securing means 22, but have also und it highly desirable to providc the pieces of elastic web or tape 23 and ii, the former of these bein secured at one end to the gusset 12 at the right of the medial line of the garment and at the other to the flap 20 and as will readily be seen serves to hold this lap portion smooth over the opening. The webbing 2-1- is also secured at one end to the gusset at the left of the medial line of the garment and at the other to the tree side of the leg piece 11, this piece of webbing being positioned. under thefiap 20 and the leg); pie e was will readily be underthe antler it \..1 the wearer has but to 'un'fasten the button 22 and to-pull back the flap 20 against the tension of the webbing and then immediately such pulling section ceases that the flap 20 Will be returned to place'by the webbing and'will be additi0nally so held-by refastening the button 22.
It is of course to. be understood that should it be desired to make the shirt portion of my combined garment of a diflerent material than that used in the drawers thereof, that this may be done very readily with- "outeflecting the closed crotch as herein disclosing thereof., In this connection it closed and the elastic means provided for the y be noted further that the drawers w ich have been here shown of knee length me be made ankle length or any interme" iate length considered'desirable.
While in the foregoing I have illustrated in thedrawings and described in the specifications, such combinationand arrangement of elements as constitute the preferred embodiment of my invention, I desire to emphasiz'e the fact that I may make such minor changes in the matters of proportion and degree, in later adaptationsof my device as I shall not alter the spirit of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
lVhat I claim is: 1. In a union garment combining a neglige shirt and a pair of drawers, a practically ing formed inthe rear of said drawers; resilient means for connecting the detached edge of the flapto the right side of the body so i closed crotch provided for the latter including ,a'flap portion normally closing an openportion; other resilient means for connecting the free edge of the right leg to the left 1 In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
