SHADE-ROLLER BRACKET.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EMMn'r PRoBs'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paterson, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade-Roller Brackets, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention consists in certain improvements upon the shade roller bracket oatented to me under U. S. Letters Patent No. 1115020, the same having for their objects to make the device more substantial and durable, facilitate the manufacture thereof and cheapen the same and increase the efficiency of the device.

In the accompanying drawing, in which. the invention is fully illustrated, Figure l is a front elevation of the improved shade roller bracket; Fig. 2 is a View showing the supporting member thereof in vertical section and the bracket proper in side elevation; Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the improved shade roller bracket; Fig. 4 is a per-- spective view of a modification; and, Figs. and 6 show alternate ways of forming the bracket proper for the purpose of reinforcing its clip.

The supporting member a consists of an elongated plate of sheet metal having its end portions 6 provided with holes 0 for securing devices at and depressed out of the plane of the intermediate or body portion of the plate, which latter is somewhat spaced from the surface 6 to which the supporting member is secured when the latter is in place (Fig. 3).

The bracket proper consists of a piece of sheet metal stamped to form one or more arms f suitably shaped to receive the trunnions of the shade roller, and the inverted U-shaped clip 9, preferably formed with the locking lug h. The clip 9 is adapted to be slipped over the body portion of the supporting member a and to rather snugly grip the same as shown in Fig. 2, its free end extending somewhat short of the other end and slightly bent outwardly to facilitate assembling the clip and supporting member, and its locking lug being adapted, as in my said patent, to engage the under edge of the supporting member and prevent the bracket proper from working upwardly when in place on the supporting member.

supporting member so that it and the complementary shade roller bracket will be interchangeably adapted to receive shade rollers varying in length. It is desirable that these positions be close together, that in any case the bracket proper be held by the supporting member when they are assembled against working sidewise, and that the bracket proper be so constructed as to be held firmly against tilting movement.

For holding the bracket proper against lateral displacement and also against tilting out of the vertical plane I provide projecting ribs 2 on the supporting member a, these being formed in the present case so as to reduce the cost of manufacture and afford square lateral shoulders on the ribs by pressing up elongated portions severed from the portions of the material which flank them. In Fig. 1, abutments thus formed are in pairs, one in each pair directly above and spaced from the other; in Fig. 4; abutments 7' similarly formed are shown each approximating more or less in length the combined length of a pair of abutments in Fig. 1. The distance between the pairs of abutments in Fig. 1 (or the abutments in Fig. 4) is equal to the width of the part of the bracket proper which stands directly between them, being in the construction shown, where the abutments project forwardly, the front leg of clip g; and in order to obtain as many as possible of the positions to which the bracket proper may be adjusted laterally on the supporting member, said forward part of the bracket proper which is in contact with the front face of the supporting member is made as narrow as possible. At the same time, in order to hold the bracket proper rigidly against displacement out of a plane which is perpendicular to the plane of the supporting member, the arched or top portion of the clip g, and preferably the entire rear leg Z of the clip, are appreciably widened. This is an important feature, since it permits the adjusting positions of the bracket proper to be numerous while steadying the bracket proper and strengthening it against distortion.

Incident to applying and removing the bracket proper from the support it is found that the rear leg of the clip, unless reinforced, is likely to become spread too far from the front leg, so that the bracket proper ceases to be firmly mounted on the supporting member. I therefore preferably reinforce the top of the arched part of the clip either as shown in Fig. 5 or Fig. 6, Fig. 5 showing said part transversely arched, as at m, and Fig. 6 showing the same formed with a rib n which projects more or less down into each leg of the clip.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination of an elongated supporting member formed of sheet material having parallel ribs punched up from the material so as to project from one face of said member and having their sides severed from the flanking portions of the material, and a bracket proper having an elastic inverted U-shaped clip straddling the supporting member and having one of the legs of said clip fitting between two such ribs.

2. The combination of an elongated supporting member formed of sheet material having a series of projections on one face thereof, and a bracket proper having an elastic inverted U-shaped clip straddling the supporting member and having one leg of its clip fitted between two of the projections, the top or arched portion of the clip being wider than said leg.

3. The combination of an elongated supporting member formed of sheet material having a series of projections on one face thereof, and a bracket proper having an elastic inverted U-shaped clip straddling the supporting member and having one leg of its clip fitted between two of the projections, the top or arched portion of the clip having a reinforcing bend.
