vdesignates the barrel, 2 the stock or handle residing at Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State .of Massachusetts, have .invented new and useful Improvementsin Toy Guns of the Magazinelype, of which` the following is a' specification.
This invention relates to improvements 1n toy guns for shooting small spherical ob]ect either of light or heavy material.
'An object of the invention is to provide a device that can be readily operated or set to permit one of the projectiles' to automatically pass or fall from the magazine chamber into the barrel. y
Broadly, the invention comprises a magazine chamber that is located -immediately communicating betweenl theA two at the forward 'end of the magazines-chamber, an expelling piston locatedin'the barrel and nor-` mally propelled forward by means of a compression spring, means comprising a handle for setting ordrawing back the propelling piston into a cocked position to lock the piston withthe spring under com-- pression, `and a trigger to release the expelling'piston and permit the stored energy in the spring to exert its. force to drive the piston forward.
Further, the invention comprises a temporary retaining receptacle to retain thd'projectiles in a stationary position priorto the firing ofthe gun. 4

What `I claim is 1, In avtoy gun designed to expel spherical projectiles and comprlsing, in combination, a barrel member, a magazine for containing said projectiles, and located above the bar-v rel-member, registering openings between the barrel and magazine to permit the foremost projectile to fall by gravity from the magazine into the barrel, an elastic receptacle located on the lower external side of the barrel and arranged in an opening there-A of to temporarily retain a projectile in place prior to its expulsion, means comprising a pivotally mounted Ahandle having an upwardly extending end for engaging a single inclined'position and located above the barrel, registering openings between the forward portion of the magazine and the rearward portion of the barrel to permit the foremost vprojectile to pass from the magazine into the barrel by gravity, an 'elastic tongue formed with a curved portion to receive. and temporarily retain said projectile' in position prior to its expulsion from the barrel and located within an opening of the n barrel, expelling means comprising a piston, a rod secured thereto, stops located near the, rear end of the barrel, a compression spring located between the piston and said stops,
the rear portion of the rod being formed with a downwardly` projecting portion, a trigger, a setting lever'foythe piston designed to move the downwardly projecting portion of the rod to engage the trigger, means for locking the setting lever to the stock portion of the gun, whereby when the trigger is released said projectile will be eX- pelled.
