UNITED STATES PATENT @FFKQE ERNEST FOWL'ER, o sEATTLE, WASHINGTON,
RECEPTACLE AN'D CLOSURE THEREFOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 6, 1915.
Application filed May 1, 1913. Serial no. 764,887.
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacles and Closures Therefor, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has for its primary aim to provide a receptacle with a novel closure therefor which will perform its function in an efficient manner and which may be easily manipulated.
A further object resides in the mounting of the closure on the receptacle whereby the'former may be retained in any position to which it is moved.
With the above and other objects in View, reference is to be had to the following description, the annexed claim, wherein those features of construction, arrangements and combinations of parts on which I desire protection are succinctly defined, and the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a receptacle embodying my invention and disclosing a tooth brush therein for the purpose of illustration, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal cross section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1. Referring more in detail to the drawing, wherein like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout: l-designates a receptacle body provided with a partition 8 and having its upper end closed'by a wall 1 and provided with an apertured lug 2' extending upwardly from said wall whereby the receptacle may be supported in a convenient manner. The lower end of the receptacle which is open is provided with a closure 3, the same being formed with a recess extending on opposite' sides of partition 8 and adapted to receive disinfecting material 4. Y
Closure 3 is mounted for yielding movement aswell as pivotal, such mounting consisting of a pivot pin 5 secured to boss 6 of closure 3 and projecting upwardly from the latter to be guided by the apertured ears or lugs 7 stamped from or otherwise formed on partition wall 8. This wall divides the receptacle into main and auxiliary compartments, the former being for the reception of the tooth brush or other inclosed article while the latter is provided as a housing for pin 5 and the cooperating spring 9. It is of course obvious that the auxiliary compartment does not have to extend the length of receptacle 1. It does, however, communicate witlrthe recess of closure 3 so as to receive the rising fumes from the disinfectant, and further through the formation of ears '7, apertures are formed in partition walls, permitting of circulation of air between the compartments, particularly when closure 3 is in open position. Spring 9 which receives the upper terminal of pin 5 has its bearings on head 5' of said pin and the uppermost of lugs 7. Closure 3 is provided with an external flange 3 which abuts the lower edge of receptacle 1 to limit the inward movement of the closure, under the influence ofspring 9, and also to provide a suitable grip when it is desired to open the closure, said flange projecting beyond the outer surface of the receptacle for such purpose. Spring 9 in addition'to holding the closure in its operative position also retains said closure in frictional engagement with the receptacle in the various positions assumed when opening the latter. Pin 5 is provided witha shoulder 5 intermediate the spaced lugs 7, which isadapted for engagement with the lower of said lugs to limit the compression of the spring 9 when manipulating the closure.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States of America, is:-
, As an article of manufacture, a receptacle body opened at its lower end and having a partition extending substantially the length of the body to provide a pair of compartments, ears struck fromthe partition thereby providing apertures in the latter establishing communication between the compartments of the receptacle body, a closure for
