To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VViLLIAM F. Moonn, a citizen of the United States of America, and residing at Plainfield, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Containers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to containers and particularly to partitioned containers, the object of my invention being to provide a cheaply manufactured partitioned receptacle of sheet metal, to contain for example in one chamber shaving powder, and in another chamber talcum po r, a suitable closure being provided to simultaneously close the outlet from both chambers, while permitting eithorhtoi-be openedseparately.

The article is intended particularly for travelers and domestic use, and being cheaply made is intended for but a single use so that it may be thrown away after its contents. are exhausted.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a container for toilet preparations in which my invention is embodied in one form; Fig. 2 is a cross section of the head thereof; Fig. 3 is a plan of the container partially broken away; Fig. 4 is a horizontal cross section of the body portion of the container in one form;

.Fig. 5 is a similar view of the same with the partition integral with the side walls; Fig. 6 is a broken enlargement of the same showing the method of making the joints; and

Fig. 7 is a broken perspective of the partition made in one piece.

In the form illustrated my improved container comprises a body A and a head B independently formed out of sheet metal, but assembled and permanently united in the finished article by soldering or sweating the same together in well known manner. The body portion A is subdivided into two chambers 10 and 11 by a partition a (Fig. 4) which may be stamped out independently as illustrated and provided with grooved edges which slide on ribs 12 formed on the inner face of the body A. If preferred, the partition may be stamped out as part of the blank from which the body of the-bow ,is formed, and angled to its transverse position as shown at a in Fig. 5. One end of the blank is at 13, the other end at 14;, the offsets 15 and 16 pressed, out of the intermediate portion of the metal, vtorming rabbets with which the ofisrt edges of the metal in tel-lock and form good joints for soldering or sweatii'lg together. The head B is secured 'to the body A by thc skirt Z) which fits closely over the upper edge of the body A and is soldered or sweated on after the powders have been placed in the compartmcnts 10 and 11. A partition I) which corresponds with the partition (4 or a in the body, is provided and its lower edge shaped to engage the latter in any suitable way to form a tight joint therewith. In Fig. 2 the lower edge 17 of the partition is offset or beveled for this purpose. The partition for the'body may be shaped to extend into the head however, as shown for example in a, Fig. 7, a rib, corresponding to rib 12 in the body, being pressed intothe head (Fig. 1). p

On each side of the partition in the head B I provide outlet apertures 18 and 19 opening into the chambers 10 and 11 respectively. In the form shown the aperture 18 is'a single large hole through which shaving powdcr may be conveniently discharged into the center of the shaving brush, while the aperture 19 comprises a group of small holes through which talcum powder is dispersed.

In order to normally close both apertures and thus render the container suitable for transportation without loss of its contents, I provide a closure comprising a curved plate 20 with lugs 21. by which it is pivotallymounted on the head. Stops 22 may be struck up from the curved outlet face of the head to work in the slots 23 and thus limit the extent of the oscillation of the plate 20. The curvature of the plate and of the outlet face of the head being the same and the pivots 24 being located at the center of curvature of said plate, the latter is maintained in close contact with the outlet face of the head and thus serves as an efiicient.
